    Hello
    I used 'Computer' to double click my Acronis backup in Windows until I reached 'Documents" which is what I was looking for.
    I could then copy and paste the file I wanted.
    Question;
    I noticed under "tools and utilities" there was red x on unmount image but not on mount or any other utilities.
    Does this tell me I have mounted to read Windows and now should click this unmount, or should I leave it as is if i want to recover a system image?
    If it is the former, do I just click the red x or is there anything else involved?
    Thank you
    peter

    You are making it more complicated than necessary peter. As you have already discovered, if you just want to recover some files from a backup then you can simply double click the image file in Computer, navigate through the backup to the folder you want, and copy files from it. There is no mounting or unmounting involved, or indeed any need to start the Acronis program at all just to do this. Starting the Acronis program and mounting an image doesn't actually add anything to this capability, as all it does is create a new temporary drive for the image with its own drive letter which you can also explore and copy from in Computer.

    I can't see that mounting and unmounting are any longer uselful in the more recent versions of the program, including your version 2010.

    Hello B.
    I was not sure if I needed to mount or umount because the 'help' in my other program Macrium(I use for the laptop) seemd to indicate you needed to.
    I know this is a different program, and even then threre is probably no need.
    So I guess I can just open Computer and keep on opening the image until I find the file I am lookng for, then copy and paste it to Word or whatever.
    I appreciate the clarification.

    Yes Peter, exactly, but you can either copy and then paste the file into a folder of your choice in your running Windows C drive (or another drive of your choice), or Open the file if a Word doc and highlight the text and paste into a new Word doc, personally I tend to Copy and Paste the actual file onto my C drive and open and edit from there.
