Acronis True Image => System Restore unnecessary?

[I'm using Windows XP/SP2 for OS.]

I just used Acronis True Image Home v10 to make a Recovery Boot DVD and a backup image of my C: drive partition. Windows XP and most of my programs are on C: The E: partition only has non-vital files (except for the 13 GB backup file I just made of C:). I plan to update the backup approximately once a week, or after significant changes/cleanup. Therefore, I assume I don't really need Window's System Restore anymore, right?

Second Q: True image added TrueImageMonitor and TimouterMonitor to my Startup files. What are these? Is it safe or wise to turn them off on startup?

    Hi

    Q1
Yes if you think that just Acronis TI Image files will be enough then yes there is no issues in disabling System Restore, but I will just make one observational thought, if you have a small issue after installing one application or driver, and need to recover to a previous working state then in just having the Acronis Images, you will have to do a full restore, over just recovering back one SR Point.

    Q2
Those two files at startup can be removed but you loose the ability to use Acronis's Task Scheduler to run periodical backups, you can still do on demand backups ( I do it this way and dont have those two running at startup )

They dont take up much CPU/RAM so can be safely left.

Thanks. I went with System Restore = off, and Acronis startup apps = removed (from startup menu) with CCleaner.

If System Restore worked well, it would be one thing, but several times it has either not worked, or made things worse for me, which is why I resorted to Acronis in the first place. I posted a week or two ago how it failed to restore me to one of the more recent restore points, and then when I tried further restores to get a bit closer, my keyboard stopped working at the Windows log-on screen so that I couldn't type my password to log into Windows. I ended up having to reinstall Windows completely.

QUICK UPDATE: I removed Acronis TrueImageMonitor and TimouterMonitor from my Startup files, and consequently had to reinstall Acronis next time I tried to do a backup... Now I let them run in the background and Acronis works fine. System Restore is still off, though that's probably not wise...

On_edge, I have neither running and I can do a backup. I never do a backup from within windows. I made the boot up floppy set and bootup CD. I fire up the computer and have it set to boot from floppy or CD. It then loads TI in a RAM disk and I can create, verify, or restore an image either from CDs or from my external hd without a problem.

I also run Ghost the same way - outside of windows.
