Has anyone downloaded the trial version of this program? If so what kind of results did you get? It was offered thorough my weatherbug and is on special for 39.95.

I use dial up as I am out in the country using a 56K modem and it seems to work for me.

Two things; Ascentive asks you to download this to your desktop which is ok but now I can't drag and drop the setup icon to any folder. Instead of moving it just creates a shortcut in that folder and the original remains on the desktop. Any suggestions on how to get this off my desktop or should I just delete it?

The other thing is that if you decide to unsubscribe it' ain't easy. You have to email support and get a cancellation form and so on.

Anyway I am thinking seriously about keeping it.

To be honest all these so called modem speeding programs are not what there cracked upto be, IF you are using a dialup modem you are at the mercy of your phone co. as a no matter what a speedup app says it can do it cannot fix a crappy line!

And if your using DSL or Cable you really dont need anything to speed it up!

One thing I would have done before installing the prog was to do an online speed test ( do 3 speed tests add then all up and divide your result by 3 to get an average ) before and after installing @ http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ to see if it made much difference?

The best and only way I try to get the most out of my modem is talk to Phone Co. about cleaning up the line ( adjust the Gain ) and to search the registry tweaking sites for regedits that can optimise the way your OS reads packets of data and or handles the DNS cache...

Thanks Halo, my test came out in the poor range. Averaging about 20 KBs Per. But still it was horrible before and now I seem to be able to load pages faster so I am still debating.

Did you get a look at my question below the second one about the desk top?

    Thanks a million

You will proberbly need to right click and copy n paste that icon or if its on the desktop just delete it it wont make much difference ( has the program listed in the Start > Programs menu? )

as for the loading of pages quicker, their is a reg hack ( which is porberbly what that company uses in their software ) to do the same......... it tweaks the DNS cache and pages do seem to load quicker since I merged the hack! ( see attached below, original reghack file from a good friend memo )

*remember to backup your registry before entering any regedits or hacks.

Thanks Halo. I can launch active speed from the start/programs but the setup icon is not listed there. I was just wondering if I deleted it and the software were ever corrupted then I wouldn't have the setup icon to reinstall.

I think you can write the company however and they will let you redownload . That is if I decide to keep it. I have until July 7 to make up my mind. What I don't like about the whole thing is that it renews each year if you don't fill out a cancellation form. That kinda sucks.

also when I right click and choose send to documents folder it still just sends a shortcut to the folder and the original remains on the desktop. Looks like it's going to take a delete to get rid of it. I hate stuff like that on my desktop.

right click on the setup icon and have a look where the location of the setup.exe ( if there is one ) is located then you will know there the main files are located and will have no need for that icon on the desktop as you can go straight to the setup file.

Right click > properties > shortcut and in target it will tell you where the location is of the setup file.

you can or should be able to right click that icon and select copy then paste it into the folder of your choice.

One possibility you could try is have a folder open via windows explorer and select your desktop icon and press and hold the shift key whilst dragging onto the folder.

However, if it is a special icon like My Computer and the like then download something like TweakUI or ITweakU Lite and tweak the visibility of the desktop icons there.
