 Everytime I go on a website that uses ActiveX I get a message saying "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly.". All of the settings in the registry and the internet options are correct. Web sites that do work are very slow to pull up. I have run Webroot in regular and safe mode and have found no errors. I have reset my ie security settings for the internet to default - also validated that everything is enabled. I am unable to pull up my norton antivirus do this error therefore cannot scan with this. any help would be appreciated. I did recently upgrade to ms office 2003 - everything was working find after this.

Have you restarted your computer a couple of times since making the changes in Internet Options?
Sometimes that's all it takes to set things right.:)

See if you can get into the Options of NAV and turn off Script Blocking.

If you go to control panel->internet options (which may be hidden in "network and internet connections"), click on settings, and click on objects, do previously downloaded active X controls show up? If so, maybe try removing the damaged ones.

I am not sure how to get into the options of NAV?

I am not that familiar with Norton's. You should have a control center or main window that lets you choose different options. Try to start it from the start menu or right click the NAV icon in the system tray and try to open it to look for your options. Should be similar to the steps below:

To disable Norton AntiVirus Script Blocking:
    1. Start Norton AntiVirus.
    2. Click Options. If a menu appears when you click Options, then click Norton AntiVirus. The Options for Norton AntiVirus dialog box appears.
    3. Click Script Blocking.
    4. Uncheck "Enable Script Blocking (recommended)."
    5. Click OK.

I went into internet explore and was able to empty the objects. I also disabled script debugging for internet explorer. This is a challanged, because I also get the active x prohibitted message when pulling up control panel and windows explorer.

I have not tried to turn off the script debugging within Norton. I will try that later today to see if it works.

    Any other suggestions?

Still no luck. Norton does not allow me to change the options - It is most likely because the panels are not working properly without active x

Disable NAV and see if you get the same error message.

Did this start after installing Office?

What version of Norton's do you have installed and how long have you had it?

I have had norton internet/antivirus for a year with no problems. I run windows 2000. I did upgrade to office 2003 recently. The problem may have started then.

Re: ActiveX controls causing errors - resolved

    :)
I was able to resolve his issue by manually removing norton. Instructions and utilities we were found on the symantec web page. All is fine now. I opted to use pccillin as a replacement for NAV. Nortons dependency on activex was too frustrating.

I thought it might be NAV causing the problem but not sure enough to suggest that you uninstall it. Glad you figured it out and used the removal tools, we have both of those available here at MG's in the download section if you come across someone with a similar issue.

Good job and thank's for letting us know. :)

I am having the same problem with Activex. I have Norton system works 2006. Did you use windows unstall program to get rid of NAV and this fixed the problem? What do you mean manually remove NAV?
I can not find the script block option on the NAV.

See if the script blocking feature is here,

    1. If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program.

    2. Click Options, If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.

    3. In the left pane, click Script Blocking.

    4. In the right pane, uncheck Enable Script Blocking (recommended). Click OK.

In Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu then Internet Options, click the Security tab and then click the Default Level button.

If the security level is set to high then set the security level to medium. See if that works.
