Hi, I have recently had problems with ActiveX (it doesn't start). I do a search for "activex test" on google and the first result i get is off of the pc pitstop website, the test says "ActiveX is not supported". Also, when I get on hp.com to check my printer (hp) for updates, it continuously scans with no results. When it scans it says ActiveX is needed, and no warning toolbar ever shows up like it used to. This problem seemed to begin to occur after Norton Auto Updated the program, after the update it said "internal program error" when opening Norton Antivirus. I have a backup hard drive, so I restored the backup to the windows hard drive to fix it, the internal program error seemed fixed, but ActiveX not working is still going on. Basically, I need help getting ActiveX to work again and Norton Antivirus is probably the culprit, I also have posted on this issue but was recommended to here. My post is located here. There are multiple HiJackThis logs posted. My guess is that I need to uninstall and reinstall Norton to fix it. I have already tried uninstalling reinstalling Internet Explorer and also following the steps to try and fix ActiveX. Please take note that I cannot remove Norton from my system, which i plan to do in the future, because I still have a subscription.

Did you follow the steps in the pcpitstop test, if so what were the results?

Also, what version of Norton's do you have?

Here is the link to the activex test. There are no steps, you simply go to the site and it detects it or not. The version of Norton I have is 2004 (with Norton Internet Security). Norton Antivirus version: 10.0.1.13
    Norton Internet Security version: 7.0.6.17

Look under Anti-Spam in Norton Internet Security and turn off Ad Blocking, I think that's where it is.

If that works, there is a Turn on Popup Window Blocking option, you might be able to just uncheck that and leave the ad blocking feature on.

    Let us know,

I turned off ad blocking in Norton Internet Security, still didnt work. I even disabled Norton Antivirus AND Internet Security at the same time, still didnt work :(. What I find weird is that I've noticed that windows update still works fine...and I was under the impression that windows update uses ActiveX control.

    Try this,

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then click OK.
    3. Click OK.
    4. Click Start, and then click Run.
    5. In the Open box, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.
    6. Click OK.

Last night, when I was getting some software from majorgeeks.com, I noticed that the old warning bar was coming up again to download the file. Don't know if this has anything to do with activex or not. Does anyone know of any other way to troubleshoot the activex problem besides uninstalling and reinstalling norton antivirus/internet security?

Well, I've uninstalled Norton, and searched for remaining traces of it in the registry. Currently, I'm using ewido SpySweeper and Microsoft AntiSpyware as a replacement. But, when I try ActiveX again, it still does not work. Is it supposed to work before u reinstall or can it also work when not reinstalled?
