need info on activex pls and wher could i safely download it...tnx

 

Activex is a method people can use to run stuff on your pc? Why would you need to have random people run activex on your computer?? You can't just download it, you have to find a site that has an activex program and let them run it.

 

does activex has to do with the display in some games like age of mythology? or in using yahoo messenger? i just installed ym and it told me i got problem on activex and cant display some features? if i run activex my pc will be vulnerable to malicious codes?

 

I don't know of any games that use activex and as far as yahoo messenger, shouldnt' need activex either. perhaps you should redownload it and reinstall.

 

ok tnx a lot, by the way have u heard a utility name RegCure, i stumble upon it upon searching about activex in the net, its not here in major geeks but it said it could repair activex (this is the site: http://fix-pc-errors.com/activex5.htm) and is download.com a safe site to get utilities? eversince i encountered downloading a util with a trojan, i am choosy in picking up sites, thats why i only download programs i need here, its hard to trust even big companies' site these days. thanks and more power.

 

The only large download site i ever, repeat ever trust, is majorgeeks. I know for a fact that ma (site owner) has tested every download. I also know that in the hes very picky about what he allows on here. All in all, i wouldnt download it.

It's possible to add an an activex plugin to firefox. I don't have any use whatsoever for activex unless I have to go to Microsoft web sites, so in rare occasions I need activex I use IE7. But lately, I noticed that I can browse MS web pages without activex.

 

No, activex is internet explorer only, not all microsoft pages need/require activex though. Just the ones that scan for hot fixes/patchs/blah.

 

Actually there is an activex plugin, but I can't imagine anyone wanting to use it. That would be like the doctor who wanted to perform the world's first hernia transplant.

Its a random plugin, made not by microsft who invented activex, really wouldn't consider it with any seriousness.

 

Just been reading from a magazine today saying that the some of apllication
that are installed on our computer aren't activex at all but aplli. themselves in either c or c++ and these can often turn out to be malicious

and even scary because these application can be read by nearly every one educated in c programing language they can be rewritten too.
