Download and install the newest version of Adaware from here or Lavasoft. An earlier version has that freeze-up bug.

Quick question.. what version do you have, where does it freeze ( registry checking maybe? ) and what OS you using? OK 3 questions :)

if freezing at registry checking then update your version to 1.04 new as the first 1.04 version had a lockup on registry scanning especially on XP home Pcs

bets bet is to uninstall and re-install the version below

I had the same problem on two machines at my wifes office running XP Home. I'm just an old geezer trying to learn from the wise ones here at MG. I just happened to stumble on a fix purely by accident. Maybe Halo can explain why. Both of these machines were bogged down and barely operating. I managed to first download AdAware and run it. On the first machine it froze up at somewhere near 18 problems detected and wouldn't go further. After trying several more runs I happened to stop the program at problem number 16 or 17. Then deleted what it had found. Ran it again and it went all the way to finish. Got S&D Search and Destroy in and ran it. Now both puters are acting like race horses again. Family and friends think I'm some kind of Geek...HA! Not even close...yet. It's all about the sages on this site making me look good . It would tickle me pink if this works for you Andron....BOL

    From Lavasoft:

Please try to do the following: I see you have the XP service pk2 installed.

    1. Did you update your firewall and Anti-virus before installing the service pk?
    2. Did you run a full virus scan and an adaware scan prior to installing the service pk2.
There have been reports from Microsoft on this.

If all was ok do the following:

    1. Reboot into safe mode
    2. Disable the Microsoft firewall if enabled
    3. Disable the Anti Virus
    4. Open Adaware and set it to running an ADS scan and insure you place a check in the C:\ and uncheck the search for negligibly entries and perform the scan
    5. save the log
    6. Check any object found and quarantine them
    7. Now try and run a full scan and save the log
    8. Reboot and with your Anti-virus enabled and firewall if you are always on and try and run a full scan again clean any objects if found.

If objects found in the first 2 scans, post both the ads and the full scan and we can see what is needed next.

    Ad-Aware Now Freezing Again

Okay -- some of you helped me sort out my Ad-Aware Freeze Up problem -- and thanks to you it was resolved. Now -- when scan is complete and I select the "Next" button --- it is frozen. Is it because of have 200 critical objects -or something else.... Help!

    Re: Ad-Aware Now Freezing Again

This is your third thread for this issue. Please stay within one thread until your problem is resolved. I'm merging all of these into one thread.

Major Attitude already gave you some things to do. You need to figure them out. And I gave you some info about firewalls in SP2.

Perhaps you should start over and follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread < READ ME FIRST: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal >

Make sure you boot into safe mode as indicated.

If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

NOTE: In order to resolve the issues you are having it is very important that you at least try to perform all the steps as outlined. If you have any difficulty please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything and details about any problems you have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better.
