I'm running XP home and used the latest SE edition of Ad-ware, when I ran it it identified over 1,000 and of that 28 were in the registry. Then it just hung and never finished. I also noticed that IE has another page on it that shows the c:drive in the address. Anyone have any ideas what I should do? I appreciate any help.

Adaware SE already has some updates, make sure you are current because SE did have some problems "hanging" that have probably been fixed in the updates. Let us know.

Did you say a THOUSAND spyware coomponents!?

I have never heard of a PC having quite that many!

I would reccomend scanning and once its found say 200, manually stop it, and then clean, then repeat, after a few times you should have eliminated it all.

I thought of doing that on additional scans but the only button I have is cancel which stops it completely without having a choice to clean what it already found. Any thoughts? BTW this is a client's system with that huge number. I needed to divorce myself from personally having this problem, lol. Thanks for your help.

As a matter of fact I had downloaded a few months ago Antivir from H+BEDV. I tried to update that today and it too hung up when it does the initial scan of the system.

Try disabling your anti-virus and run the scan. Be sure to disconnect from the internet.
