Ad-aware helped me break my computer

I have a bit of a problem here. I booted up my comp yesterday and here comes Ad-aware displaying how there's been a registry change. So me being the paranoid bastard that I am decided to block all the .dll changes that came up. Next thing I know Windows can't find any of the programs that I had installed... yay!

When Windows boots up I get the message "Windows can't find ...exe/dll/lnk" and it gives me the options to choose from the web or a specific location. All the icons for my shortcuts and in the start menu are gone. It's like my computer forgot where everything was. It's a wonder my IE still works or I'd be on the way to formatville right now. Anyway.. I decided to boot the winxp cd and reinstall windows over my current partition, so I could at least save my files... but all that did was make me have to reinstall all the old dispay/sound/ect drivers. Does anyone know what to do? I'm all sorts of lost right now. Thanks

 

Sounds to me like Ad-Aware was doing its job after someone installed viruses or spyware. You may have to reinstall if Windows can no longer boot....however....have you tried Safe Mode?

 

Yes I tried safe-mode. It's all the same. Basically my registry doesn't work now. It was definitely Virtual Bouncer... sweet. I love that one. Anyway I'm going to try and back-up what I can... if I can even get it to burn to a cd, and take it from there.
