Ad Blocking Issue

I have tried to watch a TV programme on the website of UKTV Play (https://uktvplay.co.uk/) on my desktop PC. Although I'm registered with the site it won't let me watch anything because it says I have an ad blocker. As far as I was aware I didn't have one. Having looked at the settings on my web browser (Firefox 121.0.1 (64-bit) I have Malwarebytes Browser Guard. That says it does block ads.

I have done as the UKTV Play website requested. I turned off my ad blocker, i.e. Malwarebytes Browser Guard. UKTV Play still says I have an ad blocker. So I closed Firefox. I re-opened it, went to UKTV Play but it says I have an ad blocker so can't watch anything. There is a Help page to click but I didn't find much help there.

They also suggest whitelisting their website. However, as far as I can discover there is no whitelisting option on Malwarebytes Browser Guard.

Why would this website continue to insist I have an ad blocker when I've turned it off? I'm assuming if I had another ad blocker it would be listed under Add-ons and themes>Extensions in the Firefox menu. Malwarebytes Browser Guard is the only thing I have. Any help or suggestions as to how I resolve this annoying problem will be gratefully received.

A few things come to mind.
    1) MBAM and browser guard are a bit over protective - make certain it is turned off in the program.
    2) Make sure it is not loaded as an extension in firefox - if so turn it off. Also look for any other extension that is intended to block or hide... VPN, cookie blocker, ad blocker
    3) make sure you have cookies enabled.
    4) try another browser to eliminate an issue with firefox>

    1. I have turned of browser guard but the website still says I have an active ad blocker.

    2. It is an enxtension in Firefox and I have it turned off. I have no other extensions. I don't have or use a VPN. I don't use a cookie blocker or an ad blocker.

    3. They are but it shouldn't make a difference. It's a UK website and UK law requires websites allow you to visit without using cookies.

    4. I may have to but I use Firefox because I've been told on this forum it's a safer browser, my reason for using it.

It sounds like you’ve encountered a frustrating issue with UKTV Play. Even though you’ve disabled Malwarebytes Browser Guard, the website still detects an ad blocker. This could be due to several reasons:
    1. Cache and Cookies: Sometimes, websites store information in your browser’s cache and cookies that can cause issues like this. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies to see if that resolves the problem.
    2. Other Extensions: Check if there are any other extensions installed that might have ad-blocking capabilities. Even if they are not primarily ad blockers, some extensions have features that can block ads.
    3. Browser Settings: Modern browsers have built-in features to block trackers and ads to some extent. Check your Firefox privacy settings to ensure that it’s not set to block content.
    4. Malwarebytes Settings: Even after disabling the main ad-blocking feature, there might be other settings within Malwarebytes that are still active and blocking content. Double-check all settings within the extension.
    5. Whitelisting Issues: If Malwarebytes Browser Guard doesn’t have a whitelisting option, you might need to disable it entirely for the UKTV Play website to work, which you’ve done. However, ensure that it remains off when you access the site.
If none of these steps work, consider using a different browser to see if the issue persists. Sometimes, switching browsers can help identify if the problem is with the browser or the website itself.

Remember to only disable ad blockers for trusted websites, as ads can sometimes be a source of malware. Always keep your security software up to date to protect your system. If the problem continues, you may want to reach out to UKTV Play support for further assistance. They might have specific instructions for users with ad blockers or could provide insight into why the issue is occurring.

Correct Malware-bytes can be a bit over protective reason why i don't use it unless needed.I prefer to use ad-blockers.

I only use malware-bytes as a scanner and don't really use any other function like web-blocking features.

Firefox and fire fox nightly are the best at blocking ad's.

    I use U block Origin,Ad-block plus,Ad-block Ultimate, and Ad-Guard ad-blocker.

Clearing web browser history works even on You-tube.But you have to make sure you clear the whole history.

    I use Chrome and extension:
    Disable Extensions Temporarily 1.1
"Temporarily disable all your extensions with one click. Click again and you re-enable all your previously disabled extensions."
I'd look for a simiilar extension for Firefox.

No extension needed in FF. There are 2 ways to start with extensions disabled.
    1. Hold down the shift key while clicking on FF icon (For some reason, this doesn't work on my computer)
    2. Select Help from the menu and choose Troubleshoot Mode. Choose Restart.
