If you are running AdAware SE v 1.03, don't download v 1.04 untill they get the bug out of 1.04. The new version (1.04) freezes up when doing a deep registry scan. I checked at Lavasofts forum and everyone is having the same problem. You have to use Ctrl-Alt-Delete to close the program out. :p

Looks like I have a few Daemons looking over me as Ad-Aware 1.04 is ok for me... same as SP2 is ;) :D

One question. Did you uninstall the previous version of AdAware before installing 1.04? (The installation wizard asks if you want to uninstall old version). And, did you check registry for leftover keys (I use RegSupreme, Crap Cleaner in "Issues" check mode and Cleanup! to make sure all the old keys are gone.)

Im running on two rigs (W2K & XP SP1) no problems here.
Maybe some are having some sort of conflicts with other programs they are running.

    Well, Electric,

I'm having the problem, too. Gets to somewhere in the 30,000 objects scanned neighborhood, then freezes, and I have to use Task Manager to kill it, because the X won't work.

Now I wonder why it's working for you other guys. Hmmm.

I used the install wizz's uninstall routine.... nope on registry check, vaguely remember Ad-Aware being pretty good at cleaning up after itself?!?

Yes I did uninstall v1.03. I checked at Lavasoft and many of those having problems are running Windows XP Home. I reinstalled v1.03 and that works fine. I'll wait untill they have it fixed.

Yeah, I used the install wizz's uninstaller, too.
Never had a problem with reg leftovers before with Ad-Aware.

I went over to the Lavasoft forums to confirm what Electric said above. Looks like gazillions of people are experienceing this same freeze, and the Lavasoft site in Germany (where the downloads actually originate) is jammed and unavailable, so ...

    I think ...

    Houston, we have a problem.

And it's REAL, even though the update is running for some people.

Yeah, I'm back to 1.03, too. BUt it won't update past the end of August file.

    Bet there's a 1.04-1 by tomorrow.

if normal updating is followed.. there does tend to be a few sig updates after a version upgrade.... not good if you have the older version and that doesnt update!!!! usually Lavasoft are very quick to fix their software.

Wise... are you using XP Home? and as I read most of the users experiencing this are using XP Home or is it mixed? just curious. ( I use XP Pro btw )

    Home here, Halo.

I didn't get the impression from the reports that HOME and the FREEZE were related, but that might be a link. If so, Lavasoft has to fix it, cuz there are lots and lots and lots of Home users out there who want their Ad-Aware updated and working properly.

(Home came with my newest machine, and I've never missed the features of Pro until recently, when Adrynalyne made me fully aware of the advantage of having the Group Policy applets onboard.)

I installed 1.04 on two Win 2K and one XP Pro machines today. No problems with any of them.

Lavasoft has posted a revised version that now appears to be working on the machines it was freezing on before. It's available here at MG, of course.

I have it, and it works.

Didn't freeze on me using Windows 98 :) It found three non-critical items - MRU lists.

Yo, Greyhound! Just pick up a new copy from Major Geeks, then uninstall your old one with Add-Remove Programs and put the new one in. It'll be fine.

They fixed the prob without changing the number at all. I think that was a bad idea, but they were under incredible pressure at the moment. They DID fix it, though.
