BEWARE....I download Adaware about 5 weeks ago, and it redirected me to a download site, and the download popup was entitled AdAware Pro 7.0, and when I attempted to go back to the previous site it downloaded anyway and installed, very quickly, and then a registration prompt came up which required a payment of $49.00 thru Paypal. I got a confirming email and registration unlock key within ten minutes, so I thought it was a better version of AdAware. I entered the activation key and it immediately redirected to gambling and pornographic sites and my virus program popped up notice of Virus, spyware and malware found on my computer. It also gave me a message that it was unable to disinfect/quarantine the detected items. I tried to close the program, it would not, and finally had to override shutdown. I restarted in a couple of minutes, but it immediately opened Internet Explorer and froze when I tried to close it. I went directly to Dell on the telephone, and spent 2.5 hours on the phone and working in the safe mode to get rid of it. I sent an email from another computer to the support link on the email with the unlock code telling them of the problems and requesting my money back. I tried Paypal, but they told me to deal with the Software company that they had no responsibility.

If you did not go to the Lavasoft site to download
    http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/select_your_product.php
then who knows where you were directed.
    Note on the chart
    http://www.lavasoftusa.com/download_and_buy/product_comparison_chart.php
    no version costs $49.

There are a lot of underhanded sites out there willing to take your money. You got taken.
Never download from any place that you are redirected to.
If unsure, either ask here or see if there is a link at Major Geek to download what you want.

Are you sure it was "Adaware" and not AdWare??
It sounds like you've been hooked by a look-a-like and it's going to put a lot of junk on your PC.
