Yesterday when I tried to update on adaware it wouldn't download past five percent. I did go ahead and did the scan which seemed to work fine. Today when I opened it I get a box that says Error whil loading Ad-Aware Ref file. It also says Warning reference file not foundd or corrupted. It still won't download and now it stops in the middle of the scan. Everything has been working so good what do I need to do?
    Thanks! :)

To the best of your ability please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

If you have problems downloading items or with installing or running them, tell me which ones.
What version of Ad-Aware are you currently running and what is the reference file version?

NOTE: In order to resolve the issues you are having it is very important that you at least try to perform all the steps as outlined. If you have any difficulty please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything and details about any problems you have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better.

Same here. On 4 machines (2 were new installs for friends). They are obviously having some sort of problem at LavaSoft. If you attempt to try to update it again.......note the reference file date it's trying to load. It says 10 26 2002 !!!!! I've just been using Spybot S&D until AdAware gets straightened out.

What Ad-Aware SE version are you guys using? Is it Ad-Aware SE 1.05 and also note the latest reference file is from 10/28/2004 not 10/26/2002. You must be using the wrong version of Ad-Aware (like Ad-Aware 6 or older).

I'm using 6.0 is that one outdated? I had never had trouble with it till Wed.
What do I need to download and do I unistall the old one first?

Thanks chaslang. I updated and now it's ok. They've probrably been putting a message to upgrade on the program window, but I never looked at it. I feel like a tool now. LOL

Chaslang, I realize I am totally out of my league on this forum. All those steps you listed scare me to death that I'll get my computer so it won't even run. I can do simple things and have learned alot from lurking around here. Also I appreciate the help you have given before. I am not getting any popups or any other problems like I have had in the past, just the adaware problem. Is it really necessary fo me to do all that? Remember you are helping a rock here. :)

None of those items would break anything. But to get you started, just click on the underlined text saying Ad-Aware SE and download the current version of Ad-Aware. Then double click on the file you downloaded and install it. It will prompt you to uninstall your old version. Do that! It will also ask you to update. Do that too.

See if this resolves your Ad-Aware problem. However, in most cases when I have seen Ad-Aware freezing it was due to malware issues being present on the PC.

I downloaded AdAware SE and ran the scan. Everything seems to work so maybe this took care of it. Thanks again! :)
