Add external speakers?

How do I add speakers to my computer? I have the little subwoofer and two speaker combo attached at the computer. I want to add speakers in my living room so I can play my music off my computer.

I already have some old speakers that were with my broken surround sound, they have normal speaker wire with no terminal. How do I attach that to my computer?

I plan on running wire to where I want them. I'd be nice to have a volume switch for those speakers as well. Is there a little amp or something I can get? Cheap!

No I don't have any in the living room. I just use my TV speakers. I just want music in there for background music, I don't need it super loud.

A volume control would be nice though so when I am working on the computer all the little "dings" and "bongs" that the computer makes don't go all over the house

 

probably want to use something like this to split the output for 2 sets of speakers

then run a longer wire to your speakers in your living room. problem is I only see a few extension cables, might be too far away for the output to reach?

no that won't work, I have standard speaker wire on the speakers I plan on using. They have no terminal on them, it is two wires (red and black) and you have to strip the end of the wire and slide it into the clips on the back of the receiver usually.

It doesn't have your standard headphone jack like computer speakers.

 

then you can splice something together?
ok then, you won't have enough power coming out for those, so you can use a standard amp or receiver for a home stereo. or get some powered computer speakers.
