    Hi,

I am having trouble getting a Vista laptop to see other PCs & printers on a home network...I click "add printer", but it does not find the networked printers.

I have 2 towers running XP that have printers connected to them.
I have 2 laptops running Vista - one laptop sees the other PCs and attached printers just fine, but the other laptop does not see the other PCs or printers.

I verified that the network sharing settings are correct and the laptop is set to be a "Private" network.

Should the Vista laptop automatically see the other PCs within the Workgroup, or do I need to "add a network location" in order for the Vista laptop to see the other PCs and attached printers? I really just need the Vista laptop to be able to print to the networked printers...

It was always so simple using XP - Am I missing something?

    TIA :)

    Hi

Just double check through this list again, likely you have done all or most of it already, but worth checking again, also what Firewall application do you have on that PC and disable it to test its not blocking this.

    To make every thing simple,
since you have another vista computer that's working, can you verify the settings of the faulty PC with the working one, one after the other, to find out the culprit.
there could be something small that might have been left out or not in order.
otherwise the post from 'Halo' Generalized all the required details.
if you fallow it slowly you will be able to find out the problem.

    Good luck

    Victor

Thanks for the help! The problem was that the XP PCs Workgroups were "HOME" and the Vista laptops were "WORKGROUP"...Once I set the non-networked laptop to "HOME", it recognized all of the networked PCs & printers.

Strange how the one Vista laptop was networked, but was also set to "Workgroup"...Oh well - it all works great now. ;)
