    Hi,

I just received my new pc (3.4 ghz yay) and installed my Netgear DM602 ADSL modem the way it says in the manual (insert cd, run setup, attach usb when told to, let it recognize new hardware & install drivers).

Now what happened was I accidentally unplugged the usb plug and when I plugged it in it wouldn't work. Now when I go to reinstall it, it not only attemps to install drivers for "Netgear DM602 ADSL Modem", but it also recognizes a device called "Netgear DM602 ADSL Modem #2". After it installs the drivers for #2, it goes back to install drivers for "Netgear DM602 ADSL Modem" and then repeatedly floods the screen with windows searching for drivers (and I think I can see it saying could not be installed, "File not found"). Then Netgear's setup program fails and my modem won't install.

I've repeated this process over and over and am up to Netgear DM602 ADSL Modem #20. Is it possible to completely remove all traces of devices (#1 to #20) from the system so that I can install again?

For some reason it won't let me normally install the modem by doing 'Add new hardware' and selecting the driver from the directory of inf files on the driver cd as it cannot find the appropriate drivers in that location.

    Thanks.

can you remove them all from your device manager?

Remove them both from the device manager, than restart and let Windows install it again, it should only find one.

Right click on 'My Computer', select 'Manage', than choose 'Device Manager' on the left. If you didn't know....

If I screw around with the flood of auto driver install attempts during Netgear's setup program I can get the device to appear in device manager but it has an exclamation mark next to it saying that the drivers have not been installed. Unfortunately it needs to be installed through the stupid Netgear setup program because there is no direct inf to install the program in my windows folders or in the setup file folder on the CD.

I can delete the "Netgear DM602A USB Modem" from the device manager, but it won't delete Netgear DM602A USB Modem #2, Netgear DM602A USB Modem #3, Netgear DM602A USB Modem #4, etc...

I know that these bogus devices (#1 to #20) are still somewhere in the system because if I were to attempt to install again it would give me Netgear DM602A USB Modem AND Netgear DM602A USB Modem #21.

I think a solution would be to clean the records of all of the Netgear DM602A USB Modems altogether. I've tried deleting the USB folder in my registry and had all my usb hub roots, etc... reinstall, but it didn't delete the records of Netgear DM602A USB Modems #2 - #20

I can remove the faulty Netgear DM602A USB Modem (which says driver not installed), but I cannot remove the Netgear DM602A USB Modems #2 to #20 which still reside somewhere in the system.

This thread is no longer relevant as I have found that this problem now falls under a new category
