Add/Remove Listing Problems

Whenever I call up a program that lists files on my system, I get only a partial listing of the icons; i.e add/remove utility in control panel, my uninstaller. I have verified that the files are there using explorer. Windows XP, p4,1.5.

 

let me clarify:
You have programs you know that are still installed and functional but do not show up in ADD/REMOVE. Is this correct?
if so, can you give us a few examples of the programs that are not listed?

 

Sorry, I knew I wouldn't supply you with enough info; Ok, I use a file manager Total Commander. I execute it, go into c:\Program Files it gives me a list of 122 folders, which represents 122 programs installed.(I dont install programs in any other sub-directory). Next, I go into control panel, click on add/remove, and there are 60 programs in the list; no specific group not listed; appears to be random. Examples of programs not listed in A/R include:

DAP : download accel.plus
Zone Alarm
Earthlink
Avast!

yadda, yadda, yadda

All of the programs above are on my harddrive, work fine, etc.


My thinking makes me believe there is a file or files somewhere that contains a list of all the entries in Add/Remove listing and this file is somehow corrupt.
When one adds a new program and then runs A/R, the first time it takes longer than any subsequent running of A/R because it is creating a new cache and/or file list for A/R. OK I,ll hush up and wait for a reply .

 

Normally, there are only two locations of uninstallation entries: the Add-Remove list itself, and the registry key that holds all of the listings that are IN the Add-Remove list.

My guess is that you've muddied the usually clear water with that "My Uninstaller" thing. Open THAT program and see whether the programs (like Zone Alarm) you DON'T see in Add-Remove are in a list inside My Uninstaller.
