I have just removed some wicked malware with the help of thisisu in the malware forum.

I am now unable to use Add/Remove Programs as well as Dropbox.

Thisisu suggested downloading Revo Uninstaller but I got an error message when trying to install. Error codes I am getting are:

When I try to install Revo:
Error! Cant initialize plug-ins directory. Please try again later.
    ------------------
When I use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Dropbox:
    Error launching installer
    ------------------
When I use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Malwarebytes:
Setup was unable to create the directory
    "C:\Users\FREDCA~1\AppData\Local\Temp\is-8120E.tmp

    Thanks for your help.

It gave me the error when trying to uninstall, however it removed the registry entries, which seems to have removed the program.

I am now trying to download and install dropbox again, and the error I am getting is:

Error! Can't initialize plug-ins directory. Please try again later.

    :confused

Can you remove Dropbox (if you have not) then delete any folders left behind and then try to install it? This is a pretty standard answer but worth a try.

There were a few files leftover. Deleted them and got the same error message.

    Thanks again.

Is it a problem with my registry possibly? From the rootkit issue? Is it more of a malware question?

Has the account being used experienced any permissions denial issues recently?

When trying to run the program I get this error message:

Troubleshooting cannot continue because an error has occurred.
We're sorry but the program encountered an error and cannot continue. Please try again later.

No it hasn't. We have it installed on 6 other machines and they all work fine.

    Hi

This is going to sound the weirdest suggestion of the year but do humour me as quite a few issues revolve around Date and Time, so is your Windows date, time and Timezone as well as location correct?

Most of if not all the settings are accessable by clicking the clock in the system tray then click "change date and time settings) or control panel.

Also check that your Windows version is [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/activate-windows-7-on-this-computer"]activated[/URL] as deactivation can at times drop you into a limited mode in which you cannot do much, dont think its this but worth checking.

Well, anything is worth a shot at this point. I left it at my office today to assure I did not smash it office space style. I'll try tomorrow AM and see if it helps.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Time and date settings are correct. And I am not in limited mode...
