    Hi everyone.Its been a while since my last visit. I wonder if anyone can help.
    After visiting my Add/Remove Programs for the first time in probably weeks I noticed a really weird anomaly in the populated list. This is hard to explain..
    The list is relatively normal for the first few lines then a very very long large black box with a thin cyan border occupies the list with blackness for a while, then thick white lines, 1 then splits to 2 then back to 1 again not in any particular pattern but always in same place. Then the box ends and the rest of the listed programs is as normal. I am clueless as to why/how it got there and cannot find anything in the Registry pertaining to the add/remove programs that looks as if it would cause this strange effect! have included a screenshot of said weirdness.
    As you can see by the page position marker this goes on for quite a distance. I tried reinstalling the appwiz.cpl to no avail. Thankyou in advance :) xx

    UPDATE - Tried the Hotfixes from MS and Removed the Negative value of 'DisplayIcon' in the registry on all installed values but the box is still there :( It's behaving like an installed application (the cyan box only appears when you click the black area). Tried Disk Cleanup, Cleared System Restore, no change. Restarted too many times to mention, tried sfc/scannow, waited for it to complete - never even gave me a report :cry Apart from that plus Application Manager being non existent on SP2 (XP home) the PC is fine. The black box is just annoying me and making me want to grab Bill Gates by the throat and ask him "Why is Help and Support so incredibly technical and never has an answer to REAL problems? I KNOW how to close a window!! so why put that in Help?? GIT!!":boxing :-D oh and on a side note, I flushed Vista down the shredder on my laptop and installed LINUX and that never has a problem :foolish

    Download X-Setup Pro http://www.x-setup.net/home.asp?lang=EN
    1. Open Add/Remove Programs and X-Setup Pro
    2. In X-Setup Pro select Plug-ins->System->Software Installation->Add or Remove
    Programs List Editor. On the right-hand side it will give you a list in
    alphabetical order of what should be in your Add/Remove programs (sort alphabetically so it is easier to compare with add/remove)
    3. In Add/Remove programs find what items are before and after the strange black/striped/graphical area. Then find those same two items in X-Setup. Is there something listed between them?
    4. Select the item, then click "Edit CMD" Don't
    actually edit the command, just copy it (Ctrl-C). Then open a command window (Start->Run->cmd.exe) and paste (usually just right-click with the mouse) the command. Hit enter and it should uninstall whatever was causing the problem.

    :drool Do you know something? I want your babies, you did it ! thank you so much !!!!!! it was a program called "buggy" for my logitech keyboard. it displayed one of those tamagochi style things on the dotmatrix display to play around with.
    In my CMD window an error occurred, it couldnt find the uninstaller. so that failed
    So i used the program you suggested to delete the reg key as it was no longer valid and that caused the program to crash lmao but it still did the trick. That stupid black box is gone YAY.
    Probably not the most "by the book" expectations but still affective, so THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!! ;) :cool :)
