ADD/REMOVE will not work

Hi.Looking after sister's(sole-user) computer Have deleted a lot of old filesand cleaned up folders. Had small amount Malware?Spyware which is now all cleaned. I think I may have deleted some file in error as Add/Remove is not working properly. It opens ok. List on (L) side i.e. Windows Componants, Add/Remove Programs etc. but no programs showing. There is no error. I used REGSVR32 APPWIZ.cpl. which my computer said was successful but it did not solve the prob.It was working when I commenced because I used it to get rid of old programs no longer in use. Compt Specs: Win2000 Pro Service pack 4,Upgraded from ME. IE6, AVG 8.5, Spybot S+D, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, All updated. Full Maintainance carried out. Hope someone can help here TY Boneyeye

Go to start/run type in regedit, click ok.
drill down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion and look for a subkey (yellow folder) named Uninstall.

The entries contained within the Uninstall subkey are the ones that populate the add/remove programs window.

If the Uninstall subkey isn't there then either the subkey was deleted by malware or the subkey was renamed to something else. Look through the other folders within the CurrentVersion folder to see if you can find entries that reference known programs that are installed or use the Edit on the menu/Find feature, type in the name of an installed program and search for its entry.

Once you find the installed list, rename the parent folder of that list back to Uninstall.
