I want to scan a hard drive for viruses. i have a hard drive reader cable and I'm using that to attach another hd to my desktop to scan it for viruses. when I plug the drive into the uSB port, Windows makes the sound indicating that the drive has been added. Problem is, I don't see the added drive when I go into "my computer". I've tried using small and large icons but can't find the added drive. Any ideas? Thanks, :confused

Presumably it is a USB drive Cady? ie your put the SATA/IDE drive into the cady then plug it in via \USB?

I dont know if you are using a laptop or desktop, but if you are using a desktop you could try installing it as a secondary internal drive.

The other thing to check is whether Windows Disk Management recognises the drive. It could just be the partition is damaged. (these intructions are for XP but it is similar in both Vist and 7) Open Control panel. Double click on Administrative tools then computer management then Disk Management. This will then show all storage attached to your PC regardless of the state of the partition. If it is listed in there then the drive is connected but the partition is screwed. |If its not listed then it isn't connected properly
