I have had this problem for a couple of months now, but it is really beginning to tick me off.
I get files from customers every day, of different types like .tiff, .jpg, .pdf, etc. The problem I am having is that when I go to save these files to my hard drive, there is a "1" added to the file name.
For example, if the file name is "bracket.tif", it will be changed to
    "bracket1.tif"
What do I need to do to correct this problem?
Thanks so much for your help.

No, it would be exactly as I have entered it here.
Doesn't matter what the extension is, there is a "1" added to the file name.

I'd figured it was creating DOS names.. guess not. This may not be the fix, but it can help - Rename Master very flexible!

How are you receiving these files? On CD?
And how are you 'saving' them?

Windows default settings work this way....

If you recieve a file via interoffice and/or internet email and regardless if you open or not click "Save" the windows default takes you to a specific drive:\folder location but if you choose "Save as" the windows default takes you to another specific drive:\folder location.

These default locations can be customized So with out taking the time here to check which does which I think you are becoming accustom to just right clicking the file and choosing save and it is windows save default that automatically adds a number to the end of the file name or the save as options default regardless to avoid all of the above:

    NOTE:
If you take an hour if not less than [depending on your skill] you can set your email inbox settings to automatically [upon reciept of specific emails] save them as as well as to a specific location upon reciept in your inbox.

Since you made no mention of your email software I cant give more detailed steps to do this...

I use Outlook 97 as my email program.
No, I do not usually "right click" and choose the "save as". Normally, I double click and use the program's "save as". If I do right click to save, the file name stays as it is shown.
This isn't program specific. If I recieve a .tif or .jpg, it opens in Paint Shop Pro. If it's a .pdf, Adobe. If it's a .dwg, it open with AutoCAD. All the programs add the "1" to the file name.
Also, I use 3 different computers, one at work and two at home. All 3 are nearly identical, but this only happens on one of the computers.
Was hoping someone would think of something I had yet to try.
Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions.
