i have DOS 6.22 on a computer with XP on it. I did a clean install one day, so i installed DOS, then XP, then Linux. I still tinker with DOS a bit. At least enough to warrant it's own home

To clarify, that would be DOS on a different partition. You can have DOS on the same computer. You cannot, install it into XP, however.

    DOSBox does install into Windwoes.
. You can also download the .ISO file for the Ultimate Boot CD (http://www.UBCD.com). It can boot into FreeDOS with many possible configuration options. Boot CDs can also be created from your favorite DOS version - FreeDOS, DR DOS, PC DOS or even the least among the DOSes - MS-DOS (up thru the one that came with Win 98)... Info for doing this exists all over the Web. And of course, you can easily create a boot diskette for most DOSes and store most of the DOS utilities and applicatins in folder(s) on your hard drive (on any logical drive DOS is capable of accessing - usually FAT or FAT32) - you can even access files (read only) from a DOS boot floppy that are on NTFS partitions with a little, free utility that can be loaded from the boot floppy.
. If you actually want/need to install DOS on your HD, many versions require to be installed within the first 1000 cylinders of the HD. So it is always best to install DOS first, followed by Win, then any other OSes. It is possible that Partition Commander or Partition Magic could be used to move your Win installation down the drive a bit to open a space for DOS.
. Just as an aside, most distros of Linux can run DOSEmu (like DOSbox for Linux). And some DOS apps will run from the C: prompt available within Win 2k (not sure about XP)

As Adrynalyne himself stated, he never said DOSBox, he said DOS.

DOSBox is an emulator, which creates an environment suitable for running DOS programs.

Not quite the same thing as DOS, which is an actual operating system, and as we all know, you can't install an operating system into another one.
