Is it possible to add another folder to the 5 shown on the left hand side. I'd like to add my "Useful' folder there, as I sometimes like to keep a second copy of something with a slightly different name, as a backup. Bazza

Here is a Windows registry edit that will add a "Copy To Folder" and "Move To Folder" option to the right click menu of all your files and folders, without the need for any third party utilities. Once implemented, you will be able to right click any file or folder and use the Browse for Folder dialog to choose the location you want to move or copy your file or folder to, without having to go to the destination path. This will give you an alternative to Windows default Copy/Cut and Paste method which requires you to navigate to the actual location you want to paste your file or folder too. This edit should work on all Windows versions 95 and up, though I only tested it on Windows 98 and XP

Not quite sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but here goes:
Piky Basket 2.0 is a handy freeware folder/file management utility that extends the copy/move capabilities of Windows by allowing you to collect files into a virtual basket, and then copy, move or paste them at once. It makes file management and organizing easier, rather just add all the files via the new Explorer right-click option (Add to PikyBasket) and then process them later.

Another Big Plus: You won't have to run Piky Basket as a separate program as because it is integrated with Windows Explorer. It easily can be accessed from the menu which appears whenever you "right click" on any files or folders in Explorer.

    Good Luck!;)

    Check THIS out Bazza!
Not only can I right click and copy a file or folder to the Folder of my choice, but I can also copy it to a different drive! No extra program needed to do this either!

    Thanks Toni and Compuable.

@Toni, I have set up the "copy to" and "move to" options as per the article. Not exactly what I was looking for, but a good tip nevertheless.

    @Compuable,

What I am trying to achieve, and maybe did not explain myself properly, is to add a 6th "Save As" button, in the "Save As" options. Alternatively replace "Desktop", or "My Network" (which I never use), option, with "Useful" to re-direct what I want to save to my "Useful" folder, or directory as it used to be called. Hope that makes sense. Bazza

I know what you want to do and I searched for ways to do it but came up with nada.
The items on the left are "shortcuts", so there must be a reg hack to add or remove one....I just wasn't able to FIND one.

I lost the graphics when I went ot print your link below. Raised the problem in MG thread http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=90382 and you provided the answer to that also. Thanks, heaps.

A little bit of reading on my part turned up the fact that the space shown on the left hand side of the "Save as" box is called the Places bar. Wished I'd known that in the first place. There are apparently 3 ways to customise this depending on whether you want it applied to all applications simultaneously, including M$ Office, or whether you want it for M$ Office XP version, or later, or for M$Office 2000 only.

One solution advises that the Places bar has a maximum of 5 buttons. In another section of another book, you can have 10, with smaller icons. I'll be satisfied with 5 for the moment. Still reading.
TweakUI apparently provides another solution, apparently. Bazza

    Thanks Adrynalyne! :D

OMG! After all the searching I did and not ONE link led to Tweak UI.......jeez.
Oh well...it was fun to learn how to do it myself. (But I just d/l Tweak UI for XP SP2...lol)

"Using TweakUI is the easiest method to add/remove places in the Open/Save As dialog. Download TweakUI from here: v2.00 for XP | v2.10 for XP/XP SP1- SP2

Note: For some reason, the first text box in Tweak UI does not accept lengthy paths."

    P.S. Do I hear you chuckling? :)

    Adrynalyne and Toni.

I also came across the hint that TweakUi would do what I wanted and had altered my Places Bar before reading your reply, using TweakUi.

Apparently there is a different method that has to be used for the M$ Office products from Office 2000 onwards.

Also I read today that the shareware program (45 day trial), Creative Element Power Tools from www.creativelement.com/powertools (2.7mbyte download) allows you to customise the Places Bar for all applications simultaneously, including Office.

I have just downloaded this and about to experiment with it.

Thanks folks, for all the replies. We live and learn, here at MG. Bazza :) :D

Tried Creative Element Power Tools from www.creativelement.com/powertools It doesn't work in Office 2000, for me. It does work in other applications. Maybe it works OK in Office XP though. Will keep experimenting as it is mainly *.doc documents that I want to copy to other Folders more easily than I can at presnt. Bazza
