I intended on building my own computer last christmas but circumstances have since delayed that dream. I was given a fairly new computer with a wiped hard drive that surpasses my current computer. Last christmas I was able to obtain the following: :wave

    I have a GT610 1024 mb ddr3 pci-e 3.0 graphics card (one)
    Ripjaws g.skill ddr3 pc3-14900 8gx2 (two)

Will these be compatible with the computer I was given?

    HP Pavilion P6000 series
    MOdel P6750z
    Windows 7 Home premium

    AMD Athlon II processor.

btw...my current computer is failing fast. Its on its last transistor. No more upgrades and no more help can be done. :cry

There are so many sub-models in the P6000 series it's hard to give a definite answer.

On the memory, look at one of the current sticks. If it's DDR2, the new memory you have won't work. An easy way to figure this out is to set one of the new sticks over one of the old ones - it the slot layout is different, it won't work. If they are the same, you'll just have to try adding it and see if the computer boots up with the mix of old and new memory.

The video card should work, but with one warning: To use it, you will have to upgrade the power supply to a true 450w or greater model. I Say "true" because many of the cheap no-name PSUs list peak (not constant output). This is a good no-frills one for around $35:

    Hope this helps. :)

    good afternoon,

I am ready to begin putting this computer together. I found the motherboard specs on HP's website. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02560084&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5068885

I do not have a copy of the OS that came with this computer. Can I take my existing hard drive and install it into the new computer? My hard drive has Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit running now. Will this work until I can purchase the 64-bit version and install that on the new SSD I get for christmas?

I am assuming that before I boot up my hard drive, I will have to swap the tabs on the motherboard to boot to the BIOS? Then do some configurations?

Thank you gman for the help. I just posted some more information that I am curious about with regards to this computer. Would you be able to let me know what you think please?

With the OS on it, NO!
You can't take a hd set up with specific hardware and pop it into a completely different computer.
