I would like to add more memory to my 2003 Compaq Presario desktop PC. The sticker on the front says it had 128 MB DDR SD RAM memory. I found some on Amazon such as this one: PNY OPTIMA 2GB (2x1GB) Dual Channel Kit DDR 400 MHz PC3200 Desktop DIMM Memory Modules MD2048KD1-400 ($44.99). Will that work on my PC? I have a 2.4 GHz Intel Celeron Processor and a 40 GB HDD.

Then there is this one: Kingston Technology ValueRAM 512 MB Desktop Memory Single (Not a kit) DDR 266 MHz (PC 2100) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM KVR266X64C25/512 ($16.99)

    I don't quite understand the PC 2100, 3200, 4800, etc. :confused

The cards look about the same as the two I have. I had a computer tech increase the RAM on my PC a number of years ago to 384 MB. Still nowhere near enough. It should a bare minimum of 512 MB for web browsing. I would like to do the work myself and save some money. :)

    A great tool is:

    CPU-z

Click on the SPD tab and post the info!

The PCXXXXX relates to the speed that the memory runs at. The physical cards are the same but they operate at a different speed. CPU-Z is good and speccy will also tell you waht memory you have. If you can find the speed in MHz that your current RAM is running then we can find you some more.

Here's what the Crucial web site has found: Memory:
    DDR PC2700, DDR PC3200
Memory Type: DDR PC2700, DDR PC3200, DDR (non-ECC)
    Maximum Memory: 1GB
    Currently Installed Memory: 384MB
    Total Memory Slots: 2
    Available Memory Slots: 0

So by removing to 128 MB card in slot A and the 256 MB card in slot B, then installing two (2) 512 MB in slots A and B should utilize the maximum memory my PC can handle. Right?
