:confused This is probably a noobish question, but everytime I try to add text to a screen shot (or whatever) in Paint, it wipes out whatever is behind the text (see attached screen shot). How do I make the text background transparent, so all you see is text on top of the picture and not a big lame white box with text in it? I know it's probably easier to do with MTPaint or Paint.NET but I need to do it MS Paint 'cuz I can't always install another app just for something that should be simple (sometimes I'm not the brightest bulb in the chandelier).

    Thanks. rolleyes

That's very straight forward, Dlb - and not so well known. :)

All you need to do is to click the lowest button in the toolbar, one of the ones with coloured shapes in them. If you have a look at those buttons, on one of them the green cube has white background and on the other one it doesn't. Can be used for with a few different tools in Paint and that's all you need to know. :)

Cool. I just tried it, and it worked great :) Thanks chookers! There is one thing though: when I first opened Paint, I said "what the f*** is he talking about?!?! "Colored shapes? Green cubes?" This stuff just wasn't there. However, if you click the text button (in the purple box in my screen shot below) the buttons with the colored shapes and green cubes will magically appear (red box in the screen shot). Thanks again. I learn something new every day here at Major Geeks! :-D

:-D That one took me FOREVER to figure out, but once I did, you notice there are ALL KINDS of great tool-sensitive options that appear in the corner there. Really expands the toolbox if you will...

 Sorry about that, Dlb - I'd probably been using the Cut last before noticing your post and didn't really think about the context aspect! LOL Cut also uses that coloured boxes feature. Glad it helped a few folk though. :)

And just for the record, "he" wasn't talking about anything... "he" is a she. ;) :-D And I get mistaken for "he" all the time. :p :-D
