    Hi everyone,
A friend of mine was having problem with his OS XP that. I brought the PC home and re-installed the OS. He picked it up and when he got home he hooked up his Monitor and the resolution was large. When he tried to adjust it the slid bar could not be adjusted. Anyone have idea what could be the problem. Do I need to reinstall the windows XP CD and pick the repair option?

If the only action taken after you reinstalled the OS was connecting to a different monitor this should work.

IF NOT CHECK IF THE HARD DRIVE RECOGNIZES THE MONITOR IF SO CHECK THE DRIVERS FOR INSTALLATION OR UPGRADE.

To increase or decrease the size of objects and text on your screen
    1. Open Display in Control Panel.
    2. On the Settings tab, click Advanced.
    3. On the General tab, in the DPI setting list, click the dots per inch (dpi) setting you want to use.
    4. If you choose Other in the DPI setting list, you can set custom options in the Custom DPI Setting dialog box either by selecting one of the percentage options in the drop-down list or by clicking on the ruler and dragging the pointer to specify a setting.
    5. Restart your computer when prompted.
    Notes
    • To open Display, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
    • If you want to increase the size of text on your screen to make it more readable, use Font size on the Appearance tab in Display Properties.
    • The dpi size you specify on the General tab affects all monitors attached to your computer and all users that log on to the computer.

Sounds like a driver issue to me. Did you install the video card drivers? If not then Windows assumes a minimum default, which I believe is 800X600. The video card drivers will bring out the higher resolutions.

OK I will try jewlzs way 1st but if it does not work where do I get the video card driver and how do I know which one I should install?

Just a sidenote. Did you reinstall chipset drivers? Not sure if not installing can cause this but many times people forget they need to reinstall these after a reformat.

Go to computer Manufacturer website and get latest drivers. If it was a restore disc from comp manufacturer it may have drivers on them. But to be sure I would go and get latest drivers. If possible post more info on comp. You can also run Everest to find out what chipset is on the comp.

Still not sure why they were not on CD's that came with the PC..
    Thanks for all the help.
