I am trying to remotely install a program onto a client workstation and I get the error:

<<Unable to detect the standard network share, ADMIN$. >>

I ran a simple test on the client PC by entering \\client\ADMIN$ at the run prompt and received an error stating 'The network path was not found'. this typically means that file sharing is not enabled. However, file sharing is enabled.

    Any ideas?

Make sure firewalls are either turned off or allowing file and printer sharing on both computers.

Make sure that share exists. It is possible to disable the admin$ and c$ shares.

May check permissions....of course that would just give you a login prompt instead of an error.

Do you have local admin rights to install a program? Are you sure that the hidden share "Admin$" even exists?

Why don't you just go to \\machinename\c$ and go from there!

By default both the admin$ and c$ shares exist. In fact, it is rather tricky to disable those shares, so more than likely both exists unless someone has taken some time to purposely disable them.

What OS are the systems in question? Do any of them have a Firewall enabled (such as WinXP SP2's firewall)?

Administrative shares only exist on NT-based OSs. Additionally, you need to have the File and Printer Sharing for MS Networks Client installed. Also, different versions of Windows by default do or do not use NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Enable that on the WINS tab of Advanced TCP/IP configuration on all clients.

Also, as thefool says, you need to have Admin rights on the remote PC to be able to access those hidden shares.

you must have a admin rights on the computer unless you use a hacking script :) it's not the mist legit program but if it's your computer or your friends' I don't see any moral problem...
