admin w2000 problem

    I am not holding out much hope but here we go.
    My grandson has a pc with w2000 OS on it,the admin account has been deleted because of a forgotten password (yes i know him not me).He can log on but not to an admin account so he cannot install anything new or do much, bar view web pages as long as a flash player is not needed, as one needs installing.
    Is there anything i can do i have tried all the options on the f8 boot but nothing has helped,I cannot open a new admin account and he does not have the original windows disc so a fresh reinstall is not an option (or is it).Is my only option getting him a fresh windows disc and installing a new OS,Thanks in advance

    I suppose he can not get into Control Panel and look at Local Users and Groups?

    too bad windows 2000 doesn't have a hidden administrator account to get you in so you could create a new account.

    I found this
    So he might not have deleted the administrator account but just his own. I don't think windows lets you delete an account while you are using it.

    Ask him what he did to delete the account and we might have a clue as to how to get back in.

    Hi thanks for the reply,he right clicked and deleted the only open admin account in control panel,users.The main admin one is password protected so useless as he does not have the password.I bought a new hard drive for it so problem solved .Thanks for looking, it needed upgrading anyway 8).

    Well there are ways to recover a forgotten admin password in 2K. If you need links to doing that, start a new thread and someone will be along to help.
