"Admin"??

Ok. As the "Permissions" (or whatever they're called) are out-of-whack on this (Vista Home) PC, I can't seem to get much done - at least not very quickly.

In fact, I actually am absolutely not able to do certain things that I should be able to do from Admin, such as, well, such as anything - correct?

I can't download in admin. (I get a pop-up saying my "Security Zone" settings are blocking me??). I can't access certain folders/files/etc. in admin. (says I don't have "Permission"). What gives? I have to go to one of my limited UA's to really get much of anything done.

Things seem, uh - "just a bit" backwards here to me!??!

Can anyone point me to a good read on "Permissions", Security, or setting-up the admin correctly - and UN-setting the other UA's from being able to perform admin duties? Please??

Are you trying to log into the Administrator account in vista? This is not what you should be doing. You should log into your personal account and when necessary, right click programs to "run as administrator".

Yes sir ... I suppose that's what I've been doing (loggin into Admin). But apparently something is "wrong" with the whole set-up (seemingly) of this PC.

In some user accounts (of which I now have a total of FIVE!) Firefox add-ons will work, and in others they will not. One of the UA's has more "authority" (permission) than the Admin does?? I don't understand how that could be - and if it is "safe" this way? Yet in that UA I have NO CONTROL over the Firefox add-ons AT ALL?

"My thinking", is that they (the standard, or limited UA's) should all be pretty much the same, and then I could, as you said, click on "Run as Administrator" (when necessary), and all would be (pretty much) well ... for the most part.

Lastly, some of the UA's really hang-up/move-slow/freeze - and I don't understand (at all) why one would do that but not another?

Thanks for your time and the reply ...

Why do you have 5 user accounts? Are they all set to have admin. privileges?

Try taking a walk over to the malware forum, do the Read and Run First instructions and then start a thread there with your logs attached. Then I can see what is happening in your system.

Thanks, will do (though I am VERY slow with all of this stuff, and it may take me several DAYS to do all of that again).

@ the 'Why so many User Accounts' Question (and no, only one, or "one-and-a-half" it seems, has Admin privileges):

    1. Mine
    2. For visitors (friends/family)
    3. For my son (who is 7 yrs-old)
    4. Admin
    5. A new one due to the "visitors" not working, i.e. freezing-up.

The "Guest" account is "off", as I read (somewhere) that this is best for "security purposes" (?).

See you in Malware, and thanks again ...

    PS - though I really don't think I have any malware ...

It will at least let me see what is going on. And you need to run SAS and MBAM on each user account!

I'll follow READ/RUN ME FIRST to the letter.

    Thanks ............
