Hey there! Recently, while trying to enter BIOS, I discovered that for the first time ever, it was asking for an admin password. Apparently I don't remember this password as it isn't accepting the one I gave it. Any suggestions on resetting it?

Unfortunately, I need to enter BIOS for part of my system clean up (I had a malware infection last week).

I'm running Win7 on an HP. I'm fairly certain I don't have a recovery disc for it.

    Thanks!

This is a BIOS password correct? Not the Windows login password. If it is the BIOS password, do you get an error code if you input the password wrong three times?

Yes, that's right. I input the BIOS command on reboot and it pops up with the little blue window prompting "Enter Administrator Password". If I enter incorrectly 3 times, it disables the system and I have to restart.

I can still get onto my regular account (my account is the only one on the system; has admin powers and whatnot). My computer has that nifty biometric software on it and my account passwords are all backed up. The only one I'm having problems with is the Admin Password.

The thing that gets me is that I've had this computer just over a year now and I bought it new. I don't remember ever putting in an admin password (this is the first time I've ever been prompted with entering for anything). Either way, I only use 3 passwords and none are working :confused

Tried just leaving blank and clicking OK?

Yes. I've tried leaving it blank, tried typing "password", tried the only 3 passwords I use, tried zeros and 1-8. Nothing.

I do not believe you are dealing with a "BIOS" password as Windows would not even load if one were set.

If hrlow2's suggestion does not work, what is the exact name of the account you are trying to access? I am assuming it is "Administrator"

In your admin account type cmd in the search box. Right click cmd.exe and select "Run as Administrator"

In the command window type the following:

    net user

You should see the "administrator" account. In Windows 7 it is disabled by default. If you do not see it type:

    net user administrator /active:yes

    Now type:

    net user administrator *

It will prompt for a password. Just press Enter. It will ask for confirmation. Press Enter again. The password should now be cleared.

Here is exactly what I did.
I rebooted. Hit F10 for BIOS. This popped up:

After it rejected my password attempt 3 times, I get this:

Sorry for the quality, I took these with my phone :p

Ok, I did what you said and I did not get a prompt for a password. Here is what I got:

I tired to log on in safe mode, when I hit the safe mode button it bring me back to admin account. for me to put my password in. I called staples to get help, because they just worked on my computer a few weeks ago and I gave them my password to log on,but when I got my computer I did not need to log on with my password. its asking for wizard disk that I never had. staples said all I can do is restore but I don't want to do that. This is a Window's password?

You can try PCLogin which has to burnt to a blank CD/DVD. You download the ISO file and can use Imgurn's "Write Image File to Disc" option to burn it to CD.

Then boot from the CD and select the username of the acount you want to clear the password and tick the box "password is empty". Then hit Next and Reboot. The password should have been removed.
