I am having a problem with bad image error when trying to run Adobe reader

I had problems trying to reinstall avg - so I switched to Avira and it has been installed and run a clean scan as has malwarebytes.

    any ideas?

I cannot comment on your HJT log, but regarding the above message - have you tried to
    • repair Adobe Reader (from Add/Remove Programs)?
    • uninstall/reinstall Adobe Reader?
    • upgrade to the latest version (what is your current version)?

    newest version of adobe reader
uninstalled old version amd reinstalled the new one
ran a registry cleaner to clean out registry
    still nothing works

Oh also having problems with.NET Framework as I tried to uninstall that as I thought that may be problem with AVG, but .NET Framework apparently isn't needed by AVG. .NET Framework is now completely uninstalled and won't reinstall.

guess I'm not too worried about adobe as I can get other free pdf readers - but I'm afraid that other symptoms of whatever is wrong will start to show up and if I can solve the reason for this problem it will cure the real disease behind whatever is going on

"bad image" error is often caused by infections, so you may want to travel to malware removal forum to make sure your computer is clean.

    Before you go there....

I suggest, you unistall Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is a resource hog, and install FoxIt Reader which is much smaller, and faster. It does very same thing.
Make sure, you run "custom" install, and opt out from installing any extra toolbars.

    Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?

Likelyhood is a few things, malware infection in which a trip to our malware forum and follow the guide below before posting in that area, or if .NET is not installing, what are the error messages in full?

May need if not run already to run this .Net removal app HERE and then try and install again, but do run the malware guide and see if the malware experts here can find any issues relating to malware on your PC.

Thanks all - I did uninstall Adobe Reader and installed Foxit - it's working great

Have run several malware programs also from Safe mode i.e., malwarebytes and Avira and nothing has come up - not even tracking cookies. So far - enough things are running that I will probably leave it alone - it is for an elder friend who doesn't use it much and has no computer expertise - so all my work is gratis.

We'll give it a little time and see if any other problems show up... and deal with them then - maybe a full reformat will be in order - it's often easier than trying to find hidden malware.

    Thanks again.
