I recently installed a trial vrsion of adobe reader 9.0 which did not work correctly, when I tried to install it againi got an error message 'eror 17.14 the older version of adobe reader 9.0 cannot be removed call technical support group'
I am unable to contact adobe as I do not have an account, Windows uninstaller doesn't make any difference.
    Does anyone have any suggestions
    in anticipation thanks

    Re: adobe reader 9.0

Mark Trent thanks for your reply, I followed the instructions for removal via revo uninstaller, the only adobe reader shown was version 8 when I tried removing it I got a message' the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource which is unavailable'
After using ccleaner rebooting etc I then tried to installthe recommended adobe reader but I got the same error 17.14 message
    still stuck

    Hi

Have found in the past that the installer file is still left in a temp store for installers and doesnt always get removed so try the Windows Installer Cleanup Util and look for Adobe Reader 8 and click Remove, DO TAKE CARE when removing items with this tool and double check that its Adobe Reader your removing especially if you have other Adobe apps on PC.

Curious on the error code as not seen Adobe ones like that in the past, do you have screenshot of error message to post up at all? But just maybe a typo as Error 1714 lists to this and some guidance http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=332773&sliceId=2 and the tool I suggested above.

However, the article also recommends users who continue to use Adobe Reader 8 to update to 8.1.3, which apparently fixed security issues in versions from 8.0 to 8.1.2. The content to which I'm referring is on a link on the above page; it's at http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb08-19.html

I too am having problems with Adobe Reader 9.

It crashes during install. I get a long error message that doesn't allow me to copy and paste.

On another forum, I was told to un-install Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 and see if that helps. But I would rather not if I can.

So I came here for a second opinion.

Is there any other way to fix this problem besides un-installing Internet Explorer?

(Note: I was however able to install the lite version of Adobe Reader 9, but I would rather have the regular version if possible).

Why do you feel you need Adobe Reader 9? Won't Adobe Reader 8 suffice?

I haven't tried Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2, so I don't know whether uninstalling it would allow you to use Adobe Reader 9. If it were me and using Adobe Reader 9 was important, then I'd probably uninstall Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2. However, I think I'd also want to know whether other testers of Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 have had problems with uninstalling it.

When a tech expert on another message forum got rid of my Trojan.DNSChanger virus off of my computer, he advised me to update all of my software programs including Adobe Reader. He told me to install version 9.

Oh, that's right, there were some security issues with version 8, but the latest update to that version, 8.1.3. resolved those issues, as I recall.

Interesting. Because I had version, 8.1.3 on my computer when he told me to update.

Sorry for the double post. But I found out what the problem was.

It turns out that I had to download a secondary program along with it. It was the Adobe resume - download program.
