Many months ago Flash Player stopped working; I've followed all of Adobes trouble shooting suggestions:

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html

I have gone through various forums but nothing has helped. I really don't want to rebuild my PC just because of this but it's getting to the point where I have no other choice.

Adobe Flash Player 10 does work in Firefox 3.5 but not in IE7 or IE8. I'm running Vista Business and have the latest version of Flash player installed.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Since it's working in Firefox, do you really need it in IE?

More info on your what you've done to try to resolve the problem would be helpful.

Each browser must be updated separately for Flash. Did you know that?

    Thanks for your reply usafveteran.

I use a few online applications that only work in or work better in IE pretty much all day at work so having to switch between IE and FF whenever something requires flash player gets really annoying and can hinder productivity.

As I said in my original post "I've followed all of Adobes trouble shooting suggestions" on the page that can be found at the link below. I could copy all that here but it would be a huge post, that's why I just have the link below. I'd rather not summarize incase I accidently leave an important details out.

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html

Aside from Adobe's trouble shooting page I tried something’s at various random forums, including majorgeeks, the majority of which had the same or similar suggestions as the Adobe page.

I know each browser must be updated separately for Flash.

    Thanks again for your reply!

Even so, I think we need some details from you in order to help you with this. Do you get any error messages when you try to install Flash Player? If so, what was it? Could you install the ActiveX control needed to install Flash Player? Did you Run as Administrator when trying to install it?

@usafveteran I answered the questions from your last post. Hope this helps you help me. :)

    ERRORS:

I don't get any obvious error messages like in a window but now that you mention it I realized I do get an error in the lower left corner of the IE browser in the status bar, it's a yellow triangle with an excalmaiton mark. I put two examples of the errors below, one from youtube and one from adobe's site.

ERROR 1 - FROM ADOBE SITE AFTER INSTALL THE TEST FLASH MOVIE.

    ACTIVEX CONTROL:

"Adobe Flash Player version 10.0.22.87 Windows, Internet Explorer" is the version I'm installing, I click on "Agree and install now". On the next page the Information Bar drops down and says "This website wants to install the following add-on: 'Adobe DLM' from 'Adobe Systems Incorporated'. If you trust the website and the add-on and want to install it, click here". Is that the Active Control you mentioned? Then i click on "Install This Add-on for All Users on This Computer...". Then I click Install, it does its thing, then i click on "Close Download Manger" Finally another tab opens where i should see the "Installation completion movie" but it doesn't play.

    RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR:

I did install it as a local Administrator and I also downloaded the executable right clicked it and clicked "Run as administrator".

    Thanks for your help!

Sorry, I don't have a solution to offer. Hopefully, someone else will be along to help.

Thanks for your input usafveteran; it really did help a lot.

Though no solution came from it I found the errors because of your comments. I remember seeing a post somewhere that related to these errors, i just didn't understand them at the time. I'm going hunting again, this time with more knowledge on my issue. If i ever find a solution I'll make sure to post back here.

    Thanks again usafveteran!

    Solution Found! Kinda...

To get Flash content to work, I had to disable User Account Control (UAC) as follows:

    1. Choose Start > Control Panel.

    2. Click User Accounts, and then click User Accounts again. (If your Control panel is set to "Classic View" you only have to click User Accounts once.)

    3. Click Turn User Account Control On Or Off.

    4. Deselect the Use User Account Control (UAC) To Help Protect Your Computer option, and then click OK.

    5. Click Restart Now.
After the reboot, all of my Flash content worked in IE8.

While Flash content now works in IE8, I shouldn't have to disable the User Account Control to get it to work. As far as I'm concerned this is a work around not a solution but It'll do. I should mention that you can get Flash content to work with the "User Account Control" enabled as follows:

    1. Click Start > All programs

    2. Right click on Internet Explorer

    3. Click on Run as Administrator
Again, this is a work around not a solution. Having to do this every time I want Flash content to work in IE would get annoying real quick so I'll just leave the UAC off for now.

I found the information above at adobe's forums. Click the link below to go to the thread:

Many Thanks to dougclutter who posted the work around and thanks again usafveteran for trying to help!

    A simple fix:

After Installing Flash 10.xxxxxxx, restart Internet Explorer.

Within InternetExplorer, start at the toolbar at the top:

    Click on Tools
    Click on Manage Add-ons
    Find Shockwave Flash Object
Highlight it by left-clicking on it once
Below that Sub-window, click on "Enable"
    FlashPlayer will now run.

If the word "Disable" was already there, this solution won't help you.

I think the default setting within the FlashPlayer download is "Disabled". Adobe sure could have saved many hours had they not had their heads up their arses... except that since they now only provide phone support for MONEY, there is an incentive for them to make things difficult.
