Adobe Flash Player 10 to big for my system

Like Oma, this happened just over night.... I visited YouTube (as I do every day) but today it won't let me see the videos, said I needed the latest Flash Player.

However, my Internet Explorer 6 security is NOT blocking Adobe.

I tried to install the Adobe Flash Player 10 but it would not install. So, I uninstalled my Flash Player 9 and tried again... still wouldn't work.

That's when I went to the Adobe website and read the system requirements for vers. 10. My system is too small. Problem is, I uninstalled vers. 9 and now it will not re-install.... it aborts, saying "there is a newer version out, go to www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer"

I am running Win XP Home SP3, Pentium 4, 3.06GHz which is too small according to the Adobe website. I'm without a Flash Player now.

    Help!
    Marylyn

    Collinsl:
How dumb of me! I read that requirement as GHz instead of MHz! VERY Big diff. Thanks for pointing that out!

But that doesn't expain why Flash Player 10 wouldn't download and install. Could it be that it won't run on IE 6? Guess I'll have to research that angle!

I was running with IE 7 & decided to try IE 8. I ran into problems with online Banking, Investing and Sears just in one day. So before I installed SP3. I uninstalled IE 8 but that left some residue that still caused some problems. I then uninstalled IE 7 taking it back to 6 with all the Windows Cummulative updates for 6. Thank goodness for "restore points".

    Sears gave me this info:
"For Windows XP users: Internet Explorer 6.x; For Windows Vista users: Internet Explorer 7.x. Sears.ca will also work with Firefox 2.x or Safari 3.x. Sears.ca does not recommend Netscape. Our site is not yet compatible with IE8 or the new Chrome.
Sears.ca uses Macromedia Flash throughout the site and recommends Macromedia Flash 8.x. "

And the bank said I had to change my IE settings to include SSL 2.0 and 3.0. That worked.

    Halo:
I'm going to download the Flash Player 10 from the majorgeeks link you gave me. Later today I'll have a look at weather or not it will run on IE 6... I may have to go back to IE 7. I've made a note of the version 9 link, I have lots of space on my PC so I may just download it as well and store it in a folder for the time being. You just never know.... Thanks Halo. G'nite.

    Hi Marylyn

Before you install flash download and run this Adobe Flash Uninstaller, so that it can remove any left over files which could cause the install to fail.

The latest flash 10,0,42,34 will run in IE 6. I have several windows 2K computers that can't go any higher than IE 6 and I updated them yesterday to the latest flash version.

That's great news PLODR. Thanks. ( HALO: please note) This is what I did:

I downloaded both the Adobe Flash Player 10 and 9 as HALO stated above.
    Saved them to Desktop.
I downloaded the uninstall Adobe Flash Player as HALO stated above.
Saved it to My Downloaded Files folder.
    Uninstalled the Flash Player.
Restarted my PC in Safe Mode.
Reran the uninstall Player again, this time in Safe Mode.
    Booted back into normal Windows.
    Set restore point.
Tried to install Adobe Flash Player 10.
Got Error message: aborted - see http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166
    Went to http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166
That page said: "PAGE NOT AVAILABLE"- Broken link?
    Send us an e-mail.

    I'm open to suggestions
    Thanks

    Hi Q:

Avira anti virus free version & Zone Alarm Pro vers. 7.0.483.
Darn! I should have turned both of these off when I tried to install the Flash Player, right?

PS: I turned off Avira & ZA Pro, installed Adobe Flash Player 10 - it installed just fine!
I went to my game site, no problems, YouTube okay, etc. Thanks to all of you!

Problem solved. You guys are great!

Im glad your sorted Marylyn :)

Yes turning AV & FW off can help in these situations, BUT you must disconnect from the internet when you do turn these things off.
(actually unplug a wire or turn off the router/modem)

    Hi Q:
I'm wondering why it is necessary to unplug? Why not just shut down?
