Adobe FlashPlayer: Still crazy after all these years

I have been fighting this POS for as long as I can remember. I get these really wierd messages and vids don't play. Some examples:

FoxNEWS uses Adobe FlashPlayer to stream its vids. Some work and some do not. Those that work, when one right clicks on the screen, show that the vid is playing in FP. Those which don't work will show that the vid is attempting to play in WMP. WMP simply does not work at all on FN vids.

I communicated with FN and they made several suggestions but the vids, some of them at least, still try to play in WMP.

    Another example:

Breitbart also uses FP to stream vids. This vid http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=4702 works just fine but this vid http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=4694 does not work at all. Both use FP to stream but the second one gives a message "To view the video please update your Flash Player. "

I have the most current version of FP which is 9,0,47,0 and when when I interrogate Adobe they give me the message "You have version 9,0,47,0 installed".

So why is it that some vids work and some do not even though I have the latest version and the ones that do not work tell me I need to update my FP? Why are some vids attempting to default to WMP even though they are not streaming in a WMP format? What changes do I need to make to get this thing to work?

I have the suggestions from FN on what to try and can post them if needed. Most of it concentrated on my allowing their adverts to run and not be blocked.

You may have remnants of failed or old installs.
Have you tried the Adobe uninstaller to completely remove Flash Player?

    Then try a Fresh Install

Thanks. I tried what you said and it aopparently worked. The uninstall I had was before the date the site stated was an obsolete version. I del;eted that one and downloaded the right one.

    Here's the strange part, though:

I turned off everything that might be holding files open. I deleted FP and then did a regscrub. I then rebooted. Then I ran regscrub again. Then I rebooted again. Then I turned on the things I turned off before and rebooted again and ran regscrub again for good measure and rebooted.

After all of that, I went to a site that uses FP and clicked on a link and the vid ran! I right clicked on the vid and it said I have 9,0,47,0 installed. So after running the uninstall, the correct version was still there but everything seems to be running smoothly. Does the new uninstall program only remove the old remnants and leave the current version intact? That's the way it seems.

Again, thanks for the info and the link.

I am sure when I went through this (yes I know the FP frustrations) the uninstaller removed everything. Only I think I had to run it twice, can't fully remember.

My head banger was FP would work on one user account (not the admin) but then not work on the others. I thought I was going to go crazy until finally finding the removal tool.

Glad it worked for you. Cheers!
