This is either totally new, or I missed it, or something, but I was at the Adobe web page today downloading Reader for somebody and saw that they have a media player now. I checked it out, but no-where does it state which formats it supports or if it is for on-line media only. I'm a bit reluctant to install it as I don't want it to cause any issues with my current media players and the related file associations. Can anyone shed some light on the Adobe Media Player for me? Does it play AVI or Divx/XVid files? What abaout DVDs? MP3s?
    :confused

    Thanks.

    Hi dlb

Its inital supported media versions are limited to the following, have it installed... its OK but not fantastic, would be massively better with divX, AVI etc support as the library is pretty good.

    MPEG-4 Flash Video (.f4v)
    MPEG-4 Video (.mp4v)
    FLV (.flv)
    MP4 (.mp4)
    MP4V (.mp4v)
    3GP Video (.3gp)
    3GPP2 Video (.3ggp2 or .3g2)
    Quicktime (.mov)

More I gather will be added in time.

Thanks Halo. I couldn't seem to find any info anywhere and I was a bit hesitant to install it. I didn't know what kind of havoc it might wreck with my current media player(s) and codecs.
I couldn't agree more!! I pretty much figured that it was for online media only....

    Thanks again man!

It's like Flash Player in big pack.

What is the difference between Adobe Media Player and Adobe Flash® Player? The Adobe Flash Player runtime is a cross-platform browser extension that plays back SWF and FLV/MPEG-4 content within web pages when a user is online. Adobe Media Player is a cross-platform desktop application specifically designed to play back streamed or downloaded FLV or MPEG-4 video content when users are online or offline. It offers a wealth of features for discovering, organizing, and subscribing to video content — even automatically downloading subscribed episodes so they can be viewed anytime.
