I have been using Adobe PhotoDeluxe 1.0 on my computer for several years and love it. I use Windows XP operating system. I recently increased my RAM memory from 512K to 1024K. Ever since then when I try to open PhotoDeluxe 1.0, I get the error message "Not Enough RAM" to run program. I now have TWICE as much memory as before. Can anyone tell me what I can do to correct this. I have later versions of PhotoShop, etc., but I like this old program very much. Thanks.

    Hi

Quick fix for this try of message is that virtual memory (swap file) is too small, try adjusting the size of the swap file to 3x the amount of ram you have so 3072

    Location of settings
Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Performance Settings button > Advanced tab > Virtual Memory Change button.

If that doesnt work set it a little higher.

Also what Service Pack to XP do you have? this maybe option http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894472/en-us

This doesn't make sense. Adobe PhotoDeluxe 1.0 is a very old program; it dates back to the early days of Windows 95, maybe even pre-Win 95. I have Adobe PhotoDeluxe 2.0, so I have an idea how old Adobe PhotoDeluxe 1.0 is. My version installs Internet 3.0 if allowed, to give you an idea how it is.

So, the notion that you need more memory seems highly unlikely. I have not used my Adobe PhotoDeluxe 2.0 for a long time and just reinstalled it on my old Win 98SE computer with 128 MB of RAM. I played with it a short while and nothing unusual happened. And, from past experience with it from a time when I actively used it, I never had it installed on a machine with more than 128 MB of RAM, and I may have had it installed with a smaller amount of RAM.

Maybe you should run it in XP's compatibility mode. See Run Older Programs on Windows XP

Thanks, but I was running it with no problems using Windows XP Service Pack 3 under Compatability Mode for Windows 98. Then, after I increased my RAM from 512K to 1024K, I keep getting the error message and the program won't open.

I will try that, although I have already tried increasing the Swap File size to 2048K, which is double. I will try triple and see what happens. I am using Windows XP Service Pack #3 as an Operating System. Thanks.

When running a program in Win XP in the Compatability Mode for Windows 98, I wonder whether the memory limitation inherent in Win 98 applies. I would be inclined to think not, but I guess it's a possibility. So, I'm wondering whether this would apply: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q253912 Again, I'm just mentioning this; I don't know whether it applies here.

Have you tried going back to 512MB of physical memory just to confirm no other factor has come into play here?

I increased the Swap File size to 4000 minimum and 4050 maximum and the program works PERFECTLY !!! Thanks a lot to all of you who gave me the suggestion! Frank.

    Hi Frank

I just remembered it being an old issue with some Adobe apps in that they rely heavily on the swap file, the likes of Photoshop also use things called scratch disks, which are adobe versions of the swap file.

But glad you have this app going now and cheers for the update, will help others if they search for same issue and now have one validated fix to try.

Whew, a 4GB swap file for a very an old Win 95-era program. Strange, very strange. Anyway, glad to hear it's working now.
