I upgraded from Adobe Reader 7.0.9 to the 8.1 version and now when I run CCleaner to scan for registry problems, it always indicates an issue. Even when I "Fix" the problem(it's the only issue that shows up), it always shows up again. What is going on? Bad upgrade? I did it from the Adobe website.

This is exactly what appears in the Registry/Files Issue Scan:

    Problem: ActiveX/COM Issue
    Data: InProcServer32\C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\AcroRdFI.dll
    Registry Key: HKCR\CLSID\{4C904448-74A9-11d0-AF6E-00C04FD8DC02}

Another app that might fix it: run the Repair Permissions tool in Dial-a-fix (The hammer icon is tools). This usually works whenever CCleaner is unable to delete an "issue".

Ok, I downloaded Dial-A-Fix and I tried to follow your suggestions Greenknight32, but I was unable to resolve the problem.

Zbd21, I hesitated downloading Windows Install Cleanup because of the cautions advised. I don't want to screw things up. Currently, the problem still remains. Might you be able to lead me step by step through that procedure?

Could you all walk me through, step by step, in the programs that you suggested to me to fix the problem?

Try before the Windows Installer Cleanup tool, to uninstall all Adobe Reader versions from Add/Remove then run CCleaner then re-install Acrobat 8.1

Sorry no run CCleaner to clear up any junk then re-visit Adobe and install Acrobat reader again.

Edit: if your using Vista then run CCleaner as Admin as it doesnt seem to have admin rights to clean registry properly as yet, or new version may or may not I not read changlog yet. ( right click the CCleaner shortcut and choose properties and in Compatability click Run as Admin then OK ) then run CCLeaner as normal you will get UAC popup tho as this is normal. If your not running Vista ignore all of this.

Also, after following Halo's suggestion's. Make sure you are using the latest version of CCleaner, there were some ActiveX/COM reporting issues in the older versions. Just something to check. ;)

    Newest version here, http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4191

If by latest version you mean 1.41, then yes, I already have it. Thanks for the reply.

I'm still looking to re-install. I suppose I can just go to download.com or the Adobe website.

I'll post an update if the problem was fixed here shortly.

Even after uninstalling the only version of Adobe that showed up in Add/Remove, I am still getting the same registry error. What gives here? :cry

Very strange case; I've seen many problems like this on the CCleaner forum, normally Dial-a-fix does the job. The author of that program might be able to help, try posting this on the DjLizard.net Software forum. Describe everything you've tried.

Just did a fresh install of Adobe 8.1.... problem still remains in the registry. I cannot understand why anything related to Adobe 7.0 would even be on the computer still. Adobe 7 is nowhere to be found on my computer that I can find.

Ok, Dial-A-Fix worked for me finally. I repaired permissions and it finally went away. No more issues ;)
