I just downloaded Adobe Reader but everytime I try to open it, it says that it has encountered a problem and needs to close. How do I get this working?

Uninstall it. Then try a re-install making sure you have temporarily turned off your virus checker.

Welcome to Major Geeks.:D :)

Lots of folks here at MG use Foxit Reader instead.
It is also free, smaller and faster.

Hi all! I am having 'MAJOR MEGA-HURTS' with this Adobe Reader install. I had the same problem as latereg'- i followed the 'CCleaner', correcte3d registry errors and now am supposed to uninstall the Corrupt Adobe Reader file which is on my desktop. I saved it to the Desktop then hit run and got the stupid 'checksum error' and did what i listed...how do i un-install the corrupt file on my desktop? It is not listed under 'tools'-'uninstall' option in the CCleaner uninstall! TY to anyone who will help an old tired and RE-tired nurse! LOL

Is there a repair option in the start menu>control panel>add/remove programs (Adobe Reader) ?

Whoops, I misread your post. Sounds like Reader was never installed due to bad download. You can send (drag/drop) that downloaded installation file to the trash can and try downloading a fresh new Adobe Reader installation.

Just be mindful that Foxit Reader installs a toolbar without being able to opt out of it when installing Foxit. After installing one has the choice to uninstall the Toolbar though in Add/Remove Programs.

I was ticked off royally when I discovered that a toolbar accompanied the installation of Foxit!

When I updated to the new version of Foxit Reader just recently I just assumed it would have no toolbar like the older version. Suddenly my browsers (IE and Firefox) showed up with their toolbar and thought what the heck is this? :mad Had to find out how to remove it.
