Adobe update process dink't stop.

In one of the computers I use/maintain - a Compaq nc4040 notebook, every time I open a pdf, the adobe updater starts - and will not close down. It goes on and goes on, taking almost 100% of the PCU. This is the fastest CPU/most memory PC I use - and none of the rest of them behave like this.

It seems to have "crept in" over time. I use both the usual Reader, and the Firefox plug-in.

Last night upgrade to 8.1.1 did not help.

Anyone know what this might be? What to do?

 

It seems a little more complicated.

It's not in the add/remove programs.

When I open a pdf file in this PC (Compaq nc4010) I get this:

And then, when I close the pdf, there still is this, and it will not go away:

And the use of the CPU continues to be over 90 until i restart.

On my other PC's I see only this:

I think the updater is there too, but very, very quick.

 

I found some more:

First, Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 also do the same thing.

Second - the updater points to a web address:

12.129.31.77

Ah - I was looking for Adobe Updater in the Start-Up Manager, and could not find it. So, I removed both Adobe startups, and that fixed the problem.
