I was considering buying Adobe Creative Suite Premuim but before I did I wanted to know what you all thought about it? Good? Bad? Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Mmmm dunno where to start really.........

Its a superb package BUT at a price premium, a quick question tho, do you already use Photoshop, Acrobat, Go Live, Illustrator, InDesign, if you do and would get full usage out all the packages then YES its worth the upgrade, if only for Acrobat 6 & Distiller which merges with XP and MS Office alot better than Version 5 ever did, Photoshop is more cosmetic and bugfix update, I use it in work and at home thats why I have CS otherwise if I had to buy it myself I would not have bothered updating PS7 but may have bought Acrobat 6 as the functions in PS7 are just the same as CS with a few new additions for the digital photographer, like the RAW plugin which is now imbedded into the software.

I personally have only touched on 20% of what PS can do, which I find woudl have been a waste of money if I had have bought the package, I may one day get around to useing more of the functions, but packages like MS Digital Image Pro9 or Paint Shop Pro would have done all I needed at a significant reduced outlay.

If you are in the design and creative field and have training on PS then yes I if its the first time you buying the Adove package then its a great all round package and basically the industry standard.

A few reviews I came across......

Personally I don't like it. Well, photoshop in any case. I tried it for while, see if it was worth the (rather large) price tag, and it really was not. The only thing that I thought was different was the way you got to things. There was hardly any very useful extra functionality, a couple of extra built in plugins, a couple of the built in applets were a little better...

Appart from anything it seemed a waste of time for me to learn how to get to everything all over again, only to have hardly any extra functionality.

But, same as Halo, I don't use photoshop to its full capabilities either...

I wouldnt have said it was "hardly useful" in relation functionality, yes not much really in terms of functionality over PS7 but Photoshop is the dogs bits in terms of layers, adjustments ( colour, pixel aspect ratio's, professional proof layouts for RGB, CYM or individual C Y M for litho printing ), add on plugins are vast etc etc and having images saved as PSD is a bonus when coming to adjust picture layers at a later date, plus printing from PSD files is far superiour than the common JPEG, TIFFs the next best thing to PSD and has a smaller file size but still keeps lossless data.

Waste of time.. well NO, dont agree there, well not personally, I use it virtually every day and I'm more anoyed at myself for NOT learning or teaching myself more of what this app can do, yes there are simpler apps out there as I said in earlier post, but if you are working in a design/photo enviroment then PS or Adobe softwware is the most widely used apps and one's you will have to have just get used too.

Its just loaded with fuctions that I probably wont ever use but others might and vice versa, so know its bloated but its got all the functions you'll ever need IF you take the time to read up on them.

there are loads of tutorial sites out on the net to take you through steps on most things you'll most likely want to do.. there is a thread somewhere in the past week on tutorial sites, you just need to search the forum for it.

in summing .... great app, pricey, takes time to learn all functions, aimed for thr pro, cheaper options out there to start out with, industry standard.

Well what I was trying to get at is at the moment PS 7 is fine for my purposes. I use it virually every day for a number of things (web design, photo editing, photo chopping ;)), and I've learnt how to do basically everything I need to do.

After trying PS 8 (CS? whatever its called!) I didn't think that there was a large enough improvement to warrant me upgrading, appart from the fact that most of the stuff that was improved I didnt actually use.

Of course this isnt to say it wasn't a good program, thats just my take on it. If photoshop 9 (or 10 even?) has better ways to do what I want to do, I will definatley upgrade. But I didn't think that it was worth learning the new interface when it wouldn't do a great deal of difference to what I alreadty do with PS 7, which I'm more familiar with.

But then, its never a good idea to put opff upgrading for a long time, as I found out when i upgraded from 5.5 to 7 and was completley bewildered!

Oh yes and I love PSD's :D , and also the Save for Web function. That has come in eternally handy for me. For giving people a little low res optimised preview of somthing I'm working on, or to save a file and keep the filesize down. Very very useful for optimising logos and such for websites, helping decreace the load time.
