ADSTECH USB X-835 External Hard drive kit

    Never used this device before, but need to recover some data from a defective computers hard drive. When I plug the device into the usb port, a beep is heard, but no drive letter assigned. Any other usb devices bring up the letter k. A call to ads tech say no drivers available for this discontinued item for VISTA. The 40g hard drive is set to master. Any ideas/help. Not keen to open new computer and install the old hard drive.

    Sorry sync, it looks like this just aint meant to work with vista :(

    [someone else might know differently so hope is not lost, im sure a few more peeps will chime in later :)]

    Afterthought: you could try booting a linux live cd [ubuntu for example] and see if that recognises the drive.

    It's not quite the same but i have many USB's that linux see's that windows wont and it can't do any harm.
