    Hey..

Getting ready to do the major cleaning on my PC before the Malware Removal Guide...can anyone tell me about using any of the ADVANCED OPTIONS in CCleaner? Dangerous area to go into? Read mixed things about the Prefetch area.

And what about those Hotfix Uninstallers?

Also my registry backup on CCleaner is huge, can I delete it? When does the registry become ridiculous?
    Thanks as always.

I am also wondering if I can delete hotfix uninstallers. I have probably a couple hundred of them taking up over 2GB. Safe to delete? Thanks

CCleaner is probably the safest cleaning tool I've ever seen. The advanced options are nothing to be afraid of... some of these include 'Shutdown Program When Cleaning Finished', for example. You can also configure cookie exceptions. (I use this to save Majorgeeks cookies - if I didn't, I would be logged out every time I ran CCleaner)

Prefetch IS a bit of a mixed area. I've done some stopwatch tests. Boot times improved dramatically, but program load times went one way or another. it constantly rebuilds itself, however, so it's probably not worth it.

Hotfix uninstallers are meant mainly for use IMMEDIATELY after applying a hotfix, in case things go wrong... if they've sat for a while, using them may cause damage.... I would recommend keeping only the LATEST ones.

And by registry backup, do you mean the number of problems it's found, or just the .reg file that it creates? I've never had an issue fixing all problems CCleaner has found, but I would recommend keeping the .reg files for at least a couple month.

    Thanks for the great reply.

The registry I referred to is in CCleaner from the items it has created over time in Issues.

So, can I check mark all items under the advanced heading in CCleaner and let 'er rip?

As I said, I run CCleaner on all the machines at work, and I've never seen an issue fixing all the problems.

The problems it finds are mostly innocuous entries... the check list at the left shows what it looks for.

References to missing shared DLLs, obsolete most used item references...

However, saving a backup is a good way to save yourself from ALOT of headaches if something ever did go wrong.
