ADVAPI32 errror prevents Java update from starting

I've been trying to update to Java Platform SE 8 U5. Whenever I run it, I get an error message saying : "The procedure entry point RegDeleteKeyExA could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll". (See screenshot.) It's all Greek to me. I don't know if this is an error in the installation file or my system, but it sounds to me like the latter.

I have tried both the 1586.exe and the 1586-iftw.exe versions.

If this is on XP, neither the OS nor the browser is supported.

You need to be running Vista or higher and IE 9 or higher.
