    Hey there guys and girls,

    right!

I have a Advent 7027 Notebook, I am trying to do a reinstall of Windows XP on the machine as there was alot of Software faults on there and thought it be a good time to give it a clean up.

So i have done the reinstall using a Windows XP Home SP1 CD (Windows XP Home SP1 Licence) and the machine is fine... then i went to put SP2 on there before i installed any of the drivers. The computer installs SP2 fine, then when it comes to restarting the machine it does so as its ment too but then when booting back into windows to complete the SP2 install it locks up on the part of the SP2 install at boot where it says "Please Wait......." with the dots going along.

Soooo! I have done the following to try getting around this...

    1. Reinstall Windows XP Home SP1 again and install the Drivers from the Advent Driver CD that comes with the machine and then tried to install SP2.

    2. Reinstalled Windows XP Home SP1 again using drivers found from the internet and so on and then tried to install SP2 after the drivers are installed.

    3. Reinstalled Windows XP Home SP1 again and diabled as much of the hardware as i could such as Sound, Wireless Network, LAN, Modem etc.. then installed SP2.

    4. Tried different RAM in the machine using both slots togeither and alone and trying every combo using the RAM that is in the machine.

All these come out with the same problem. I also forgot to say that Windows will boot into Safe Mode no problem at all even with the SP2 Upgrade installed on the machine but will not boot up in Normal Mode or VGA Mode. By this point i am going insane with the machine as its taking too much of my time up!:cry

So i am wondering if anyone has any ideas or anything they could let me know if someone has another model like this with the same problem!?

    ANYTHING will be good!

    Thank you.

You are not alone. I found another case from three years ago with it hanging in the exact same place. With it being clean installs(right?), I'd say you have hardware that is having a hard time accepting SP2. Have you checked the Advent website for any SP2 issues with the laptop, or perhaps a BIOS update? Something esle you can try is slipstreaming Sp2 into your XP CD, then installing that way.
