Advice for a Photoshop Problem.

On June 15, 2005 i had a small problem with Photoshop CS where it kept on freezing when loading. It began when i had PhotoshopCS, Real Player, and was on MSN at the same time. The first that happened was the freezing of the screen. After that i pressed the reset button or the button below the ON button. From there i reloaded Photoshop CS it loaded slowly til it said "Scanning Fonts...Arial Done." and it froze on me. During the loading period it showed one of the toolbars (the brush, paintbucket, circle tools, etc) with nothing but the outline. If i was to tab Messenger it would get all white and just freeze even more. Finally, Photoshop never loads at all it just stays in that state. I've uninstalled and installed it more than once ( like 3 times) with no solution to the problem. Some of my friends have said that it can be a virtual memory problem. Which i may add a small warning message did pop-up during and before the problem. I have 384MB of ram right now, before i had 128 MB and used it for 4 yrs without putting any til 4 months ago (256MB of RAM more) . I went to the adobe website but it doesnt answer my questions at all. Is it virus like spyware, is it virtual memory, or is it that the file became corrupted? I don't know what else to do. I thought since I lack knowledge in this computer stuff I should ask some people with more understanding of situations like this. Any Advice would be most appreciated!

try starting with a scan of your hard drive to make sure there are no errors on the drive.

 

Thank you for Replying. Do you mean like doing a Defragmentation? I Defragmentated the computer the day the error occurred.

 

Nope, not defrag. Try ScanDisc:

Go to My Computer
Right click on your hard drive icon
Click properties
Click the tools tab and click check now to check the drive for errors.
The computer will need to restart in order to run scandisk in a safe mode.

Question: is this copy of Photoshop a legally purchased copy of PS? If it's not, that may be a large part of your problem right there...

 

Well a friend gave it to me, i do think it's a copy of the original that he had, but it has never done that before at all. Thank you for your advice!

 

Finally i found the solution and got my Photoshop to work. THe problem was because of a stupid file that was hidden call 'New Doc Sizes.psp'. Its located on your C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\8.0\Adobe Photoshop CS Settings. But before you do that u need to do this: Solution: Delete the New Doc Sizes file.

Delete the New Doc Sizes file (New Doc Sizes.psp) and then start Photoshop. Photoshop creates a New Doc Sizes.psp file during startup.


To delete the New Doc Sizes file:



-- In Windows:


1. Make sure that Windows Explorer shows hidden files and extensions:


a. In Windows Explorer, choose Tools > Folder Options.

b. Click the View tab in the Folder Options dialog box.

c. In Advanced Settings, select Show Hidden Files And Folders.

d. Deselect Hide Extensions For Known File Types.

e. Click OK.


2. In Windows Explorer, locate the New Doc Sizes.psp file in the Documents and Settings/ [user name] /Application Data/Adobe/Photoshop/8.0/Photoshop CS Settings folder.

3. Right-click the New Doc Sizes.psp file and choose Delete from the pop-up menu.

4. Start Photoshop. If the problem still occurs, a system issue may be causing the problem. To troubleshoot the system, see Related Records.

And then your done.
