    Good Day,

    I have a user on a Windows XP Pro box that uses chinese characters and the Input Method Editor as part of his daily job.

    Today he reported to me that he could not open files he was saving from an email.

    I checked and found that the folder he was saving to included chinese characters. I also found that you could save and open the file from the parent directory, which did NOT include chinese characters.

    It seems to be a problem with what he has named this folder. I'm hardly uni-lingual myself, so I'm not too sure what I can do with multilanguage features in XP. Is there any advice I can give him short of AVOIDING the use of chinese characters in his folder names?

    Thanks for any input,

    Milty

    As I recall, Mada....under the regional and language settings..you can toggle back and forth .....so why could he not use the normal language (English?) to name folders and then save with the chinese characters...or am I missing the point?

    I do believe that's what he's doing.

    He has a folder structure similar to this example:

    c:
    -> Customers
    ----> Chinese Customer chinese characters
    --------> File From Email.

    Anything saved in the Chinese Customer folder cannot be opened. Anything saved ABOVE that, can be opened. I believe that Windows doesn't like having chinese characters in the file path.

    I dunno, maybe this is a silly request and he should just stick to english folder names, but I'm just curious if his machine just needs to be setup better. I can't imagine being allowed to create folders with chinese in the name, and NOT being able to open anything inside it, but that seems to be the case.

    And the properties for the folder? Does it open when he has toggled back to chinese?
    (Yeah ...WTF does he need to name it with chinese characters for??).
