I'm looking to build a gaming machine on a budget. The games I play are typically MMO's but I do want to be able to play some newer games as well.

I have a few parts I'm already looking at on newegg and tigerdirect but I have a few questions and I'm looking for some advice or maybe some suggestions.

    1) Motherboard and CPU www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.182262

    2) Vid Card http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4111742&sku=E145-9504
How do the duel DVI monitors work? Is it basically 2 seperate desktops?
Will I need special software to run the duel monitors?
Would it be better for me to get a 512 ddr3 video card?

    3) Memory http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4431469&sku=K24-6032
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2967711&Sku=P33-5010
I've heard of Kingston before but not Patriot I'm thinking I'll only need 4gb of memory right now but I'm open to suggestion. The patriot seams to be a better deal after the mail in rebate for what I need but what do you guys think on this?

    4) Processor Cooling - I'm not sure at all what to look for on this. The board and CPU I listed above doesn't come with a fan or anything.

    5) Monitor http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4401406&sku=A179-2300
Any recommendations on a better price or better quality around the same price would be appreciated.

My father-in-law has a high quality 600W power supply and a case I can use. I'll probably keep my current hard drive. I think I have everything I will need listed here but I would love any input you guys may have.

    Thanks!

I recently just bought this monitor and have been having a little issue with it. Whenever I seem to download the drivers for my graphics card I get 1080p but if I go to switch inputs or shut the monitor off and then turn it back on or switch back to the PC input I lose signal to my PC. If you have this problem let me know casue two heads are better then one. Other then that it's really an amazing monitor. Good luck on the new build!

Thank you very much guys. I haven't bought the monitor yet but now I'm a bit concerned about it if it is giving your trouble. Is there any chance that its yoru video card thats causing it to lose signal?

I'm also interested to get any further advice or some confirmation on the cooling for the processor. Will http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106084 be enough or sould I get something better?

Concerning the Power supply that raises another question. I was under the impression that the main thing that I needed to worry about with the Power supply is that it had enough watts for the video card. What can I do and what do i need to look for in order to make sure i have enough power?

Sorry for the double post here I forgot to re-ask an important video card question.

The way it looks right now I can get a 1gb ddr2 128-bit video card for about the same price as a 512 ddr3 256-bit video card which one is better?

The second one. There is no point in having more memory if it is too slow to get the data in or out.

Hey Mahoonie welcome to MG :wave

If you gimme an idea of you're budget I can give you an idea of the spec you can expect on newegg, for you're needs that is.

I would go for a Phenom II Quad Core & a 9600GT instead of the 9500 which won't last long with today's games. Also If you could give me an idea of the games you will be playing I that'd give me a better idea of the sort of spec you need to aim for :)

I play all sorts of demanding games personally LOL

    GTA IV
    Crysis
    Test Drive Unlimited
    Turok
    Race Driver:GRID

The top two gave me the most hastle until I upgraded :-D

    AMD is lame
get a 9800GT its only like 150 best bang for buck.
get 4GB of ram and get a 64bit OS
    at least 600W PSU
    you will be golden.

AMD may be falling a little bit behind Intel in the extreme processor market, but they are thrashing Intel in the lower ranges.

Seeing as AMD & ATI are now working together ATI's GPU's are amazing value, the 4890 X2 will destroy nvidia, the 4870 X2 has been around a long time and the nvidia cards have been focusing on beating that which they have but not by much. The only thing that keeps nvidia ahead is PhysX, but the next gen of ATI cards the 5xxx series will have DX11 & a physics processor so watch this space :-D

I used to be firmly rooted in the nvidia camp don't get my wrong but they are just too expensive to match ATI really, the best "bang for the buck" has been ATI's strong point for a long time now. If they get the top spot then nvidia are finished, think about it better performance & cheaper, you'd have to be a fool not to switch camp LOL
